C'mon now, it's still a gas engine. The GS350 hits 277ft/lbs @ 4800rpm. With a change to a truck application you can expect the torque peak to be around 3600-4200rpm. With a good bump in torque numbers (5-10%). Toyota has always been good about sacrificing some high rpm hp to get a good useable torque band on their trucks.

I double it will have 300+ torque. It will likely have around 270-280 just at a lower RPM.

On closer inspection, the new Tacoma gauges looks closer to the new Camry gauges, which aren't do outdated but the screen is a little smaller and less integrated than most new cars.

I will say this, I will be all over a new Tacoma with a red stitched wheel and dash like the Camry above.

You guys are going off of information that has not been proved. Anything can happen people, nothing is set in stone. Most of you are being like you have seen the 2016 in person and drove it also!

X2. Drooling over the steering wheel with red stitchings and that dash layout. Puts the port hole dash we have on the Tacomas to shame :(

    Awesome.

But knowing my luck it won't be available together with a manual transmission... hope I am wrong here.

Toyota needs to step it up with projectors and have the option for factory Hids. At this day all cars should have them.

I can't wait for the redesign!

On his defense, he said the clock would be removed and replaced with a Tacoma emblem, which it did for the 2015 model.

If you could have guessed that I would be surprised.

I could care less for a 6 manual unless it was a sports car. Power moon roof... meh never used in my past cars either. Projectors...meh, HID...meh, LED would be a better choice for headlights since it's more efficient and uses less power. Heated/vented seats cool idea but not a necessity for a truck. Heated side mirrors I would like to see happening. Last a 28-30+ mpg would be worth buying another Tacoma. In the mean time, I'm keeping my Tacoma

[IMG] Sorry, but my contact at TMMTX certainly isn't Da Rosa himself (lol) and from that I've learned in the last few days how rank matters. For that matter, I will start taking some TMMTX-originated info with a grain of salt, after such a shocking revelation from you. On the international end, Toyota is already preparing the next Land Cruiser (300) and the smaller Lexus GX version (180). I had made the 2016 platform assumption and asked him to confirm it for me.

The current Tacoma (and defunct FJ Cruiser) is based on the 2002-09 version (120) from the GX470, so both of us (my source) had made that assumption without seeing the new design has the same current platform. I'm not sure what has been discussed at the Torrance offices, but I somehow doubt there's no new 4Runner being planned as of September 2014.

Considering that no one outside of Toyota JP HQ and TTC in Michigan was shown the new Tacoma until this year (2014), I wouldn't discard the next 4Runner so easily. That could be Japan-only information in being 2-3 years out, so maybe Torrance folk aren't being told yet?

I heard how Mercedes USA's CEO Steve Cannon saw the new S Class just 1 year before reveal and only knew what the public did before that happened, unlike workers in Germany. Your comment suggests that Toyota is either discontinuing the 4Runner or doing another minor facelift in 2016/17. Sorry if I am asking too much.

I told my source all of what you said and he shrugged, claiming that he only answered my own questions and assumptions, up to an acceptable level. I'd expect by now the platform wouldn't have been a mystery to him (1 year left), unless I was being lied to by a yes-man or that he only pays attention his own actual work (Tundra, etc.).

You do know better about the full future US line-up, since clearly TMMTX does not even build 4Runners, so I really want to respectfully trust your word more on that one. However, it seems very unrealistic for there to be nothing planned for the 4Runner, if its own international counterpart is being developed already (IDK about Lexus).

Since I can't get better answers like I had assumed from my guy, are you sure that this cannot be considered a 3rd generation Tacoma? Looking at the 2011 to 2012 Camry, the changes appear to be on the same level. Plenty of other models have been considered a new generation, despite sharing the previous platform. There's nothing wrong with that really, if you improve in all other areas. I heard the new Benz S Class is the same story and possibly even the new GM full sizers.

I feel it's on that level and 3rd gen, unless something even bigger than that is planned in 2019 or 2020, 100% ground-up. That would be a 15-16 year lifecycle for the second generation (2004-2019/20), which would be pitiful on Toyota's part and just like the Ranger (see 1993-2011 Ranger).

Thanks again, as you've been very helpful on filling in other blanks for me. I understand if you cannot answer stuff on a public site, in directly working for Toyota USA HQ. Ignore the detractors and please stay on TW. [IMG]

You're attacking the wrong person, as pbm knows 100% what he's talking about. He's his own source. In my case, it's 50-70%, in being more of a lucky 3rd-party. Besides what it looks like, I've previously stated I do not know everything, but will put forward everything I do know to the benefit of TWers and other Tacoma owners (past/current/future). I understand your annoyance though, but try and put two-and-two together honestly before making accusations. Out-of-thin-air theories are not happening this late in the game, like many of you were doing years ago on "2011/2013/2014 redesigns".

As for things "set in stone", you give the impression of ignorance towards development lead times. Toyota can't start producing a new truck less than 1 year after engineering major specs (new power trains, body design, etc), it doesn't work like that. The styling of the 2016 wasn't even done this year, yet it comes out in 2015. Working ahead ensures things have enough time to be done right and not rushed, resulting in recalls.

My point is, that there are stages in which certain aspects of a redesign, cannot be changed and have to arrive as-is or it will be very expensive correcting them so late. Whether or not it is based on the current 120-related 2G platform, most of everything is set in stone and many people have seen it.

Toyota is known to now avoid hyper speed development and need a new model to be verified at least 1.5-2 years before production begins. I am asking my own questions to friends at TMMTX, but will still not be privy to what pbm317 would be at this stage. My cousin that works as an engineer (elsewhere) and others, have helped me piece things together, on how this stuff works.

That would apply to me partially, but not necessary pbm. He knows what he's talking about, so I would not even insult him based on things you do not know about. He's an insider, but I'm on the outside-in (if that even makes sense). There's no reason to disrespect someone like him that directly works for Toyota, just because of your own skepticism.

The current truck dates back to 2004, with minor changes in between, so the fact of how anything significant has come up is a big deal. Not just another lame duck theory in broken English or useless air-headed speculation. Besides buying my new truck, I didn't even post here much until I came upon legitimate info on a next-gen in April. Lying serves no purpose, except to damage one's reputation in the end.

Great, I feel similarly and understand how even more frustrating it would be, as someone (like you) who's involved in Toyota products. You are going out of your way and risking disclosure agreements to inform TWers on the 2016, so respect should be coming your way, chief.

Again, please do not let trolling attacks detract from your efforts. Some of the worst skepticism I've seen here, that actually beats up the messenger. I blame Toyota's extreme silence to Tacoma owners for that and years of most of us being in the dark. You obviously cannot in turn, hand out flyers of self-taken photos with spec-sheets, as you'll be prosecuted and sent to prison. Your word is proof enough at this point.

+1 Thanks, I agree with you. We do not need to be attacking people that are trying be helpful and fill in the blanks for us. Toyota won't be official on anything for 3-5 months, so it's better to cock our ears at anything that sounds feasible.

I'm just saying I wouldn't just believe the first thing someone tells you tell you have more knowledge on the subject or have actually seen it for yourself IMO.
