So with all the flooding we had in AZ I drove my truck through allot of deep water. Not by choice mind you. Had to get the wife to and from work.
I know I need to lube the U-joints.
What about the transfer case oil? I read recently that the breather port is low. Is there an easy way to see if any water got in it? Or should I just change the oil and not mess with it?
Is there any other places I should pay attention to?
Gotta keep the truck in good shape :)

I would say check the diff if you haven't relocated it.

Yea I read about the relocation, I thought it was the transfer case but maybe it was the Differential.
Is that the front or rear diff or both? Do these diffs have drain plugs or do they have to get pumped out?
Tomorrow, I have to go get the gear oil, grease and a new lube gun. I want to basically have all the bases covered for my shopping list. Truck only has 7k miles on it and wasn't to worried about buying this stuff for 20K miles lol..

Most likely you shouldn't worry about anything.
Yes, you do have a Diff breathe and it SHOULD have a one way check valve that
SHOULD close when it hits water. The thing about the breather is that it tends to fail or leak in time. Since you have a 14' I'd say you are fine.

Next it YES, your diffs have drain and fill plugs. As does the transfer case.
And the process to drain and fill them is pretty easy.

Follow the link here to see the process to DIY.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ront-diff-transfer-case-oil-change-howto.html

The link to the rear diff is in the description. .

    Good luck.

P.S. I'm quite sure I've made some grammatical mistakes. Feel free to correct me Naveronski.
I came from a public school in the south and know I can't write correctly.

I don't know what is inside if it. I have never taken mine off.
I have not extended or relocated my breather either. I don't worry about it too much. I know many people that regularly launch boats and they never have issues.

Now, I know there will be some that come along and say my advice is wrong.
And that you need to relocate the breather if you submerge the axle in water
regularly. But then again you should change your diff fluids more often too if you do this.

50/50.... And I'm lazy and cheap. Plus I don't go swimming a lot.

Good question to seek advice on, not a normal encounter.
Also good information given from good members.
Too bad Naveronski chose to be a ****.

I can see that possibly happening. But how warm do the diffs get?
I honestly have never crawled under and felt. But I would think
you need to be submerged for at least 10-15 seconds to cause a rapid cooling
to produce a vacuum great enough to suck water in the axle seals.

I am not at all saying you are wrong. I am honestly curious to what actually needs to happen to cause this issue. I would think a boat launch would be a PERFECT place for this to happen. More so than just a quick ford throw some water.

OP, you can check for water in your rear diff just by removing the fill plug. Make sure your truck is on level ground. Full, it is just at the bottom of the fill port. If you took on water, it will overflow when you remove the fill plug.

Edit for clarification: The fill plug is the one on the back of the differential.

Wait we can't swear anymore? Fuck that!

BTW breathers clog and water can get in, if you want to be safe just change the fluid in the difs. Grease up the zerks and you'll be fine.

Great advise but I think if I go this far I might as well just change the fluid while I'm there.

I would just change it for the peace of mind, its not very expensive for the fluids.

Disclaimer- I am a product of Baltimore public schools and grammar errors should be expected.
