-Make sure you get used to the braking system- if you are coming to a stop on an icy patch, say at an intersection, the ABS will kick in and you will slide right through. Do the best you can to anticipate icy stops and slow down.

-To save a few bucks - likely - Toyota has not seen fit to provide a warning light when your windshield washer anti-freeze is low. Many people in southern areas populated by alligators, large snakes, and infrequent snow falls, can't see the problem with this. But when you're hauling a skidoo trailer on a four lane highway that is down to a single goat track during a blizzard in which you have 5 feet of forward visibility, and you are going through windshield washer faster than gasoline, the last thing you want to think about is whether the sudden lack of washer fluid on the windshield is due to an empty tank or a broken down washer pump as the only safe place to stop are exits from the freeway, usually blocked with snow.

    These are good points.

Glad you brought up the ABS. Because its pretty sensitive. So sensitive that it might be worth looking up the write up for the ABS kill switch for some. I've learned its faults, so know what to expect, but for someone not used to it, it could get you in trouble.

This.. whenever in a new vehicle or after putting on new tires the first place you go as soon as it snows should be to a large paved area so you can practice emergency maneuvers. Every tire and truck reacts differently so it's good to know how it will and what you need to do in those situations.

Concerning weight in the bed... just remember to not overdo it. Added weight past the "perfect level" will only increase stopping distance due to added mass. I have a heavy ass end so I don't add any. This is something you should do based on "feel" not what others put in their beds because each truck and driver is different.

I have yet to see anyone mention airing down your tires. While not advised for highway or long term driving, stock tires (Bridgestones on a open/LSD truck) can do pretty freaking good when aired down.

20psi going uphill in "NE snow" with no weigh in the bed...on grass
    [IMG]

just watch out for snow drifts... doesn't matter if your running studded tires...if they are 2' off the ground nothing works

I live in Scott Township so no city streets to deal with. I'll take it on an empty parking lot and get a feel how it reacts on snow. Thanks for all the advice.

Ya, I agree, although they are not the best, you will get by, I put 4 or 5 sand bags in the bed (250/300 lbs) I just couldn't see tossing the stock tires without wearing (at least mostly) them out.

Now this is real snow depth .... My Mother was born in this area. When she was born they used to use rollers to pack the snow and used sleighs (no Kidding !!)

OZ you're being a snow snob. Let them have their fun. I'm out having fun the first snowfall every year even if it only amounts to that kind of snow at first.
