I measured 5 inches up and did it with some snips.

DId it all while they was screwed to the car. Used my first chop as my template for the succedding cuts. Smoothed all with 2oo grit paper. Looks better, works better, no doubt, one of the best easy mods I did.

Now I go up and down curbs with ablomb. No scraping sound

Now the more expensive mods, like shell, and lift and tires and wheels will just need someone to fork up the dough to me, your local life saver.

Listen: All girls welcome to have a date with me once a donated item is recieved. I'll cook or talke you to your favorite place.

the stock 2nd gen mud flaps almost touch the ground up front. there is about 3 inches of clearance. they are also hard plastic, so they often get ripped off on the first off-road trip and are expensive to replace. they are way too long to be used in even the lightest terrain

I too cut about 5" off my flaps after slamming one dropping off a small curb. It sounded like the fender was going to be ripped off.
Too do this I took them off and clamped them together (lined up tire side together) to work bench with portion to be cut off hanging off and cut them using a roto-zip cutter. With a steady hand this can be done free hand or you can draw a line. I cleaned up the cut edges with sandpaper and reinstalled all in less than 30 mins.

Mine are off as well but the paint is getting beat up. Wish I could find a decent looking set.

This is about where I am now. I have a couple of small chips on the pass side door that I suspect are rocks that got kicked up. This has obviously gotten worse over the last couple months since I got my A/T tires. I think I'm going to trim mine and go with that.
