I just threw $800+ at it for a new timing belt, water pump, thermostat and some other belts. It would be nice not to throw anymore at it for awhile. I definitely will make sure the tires are aired up properly. I do however think it may be the shocks because when I push down on the truck they have a lot of give (front & back) and it will bounce a few times. Thanks for your suggestions.

Stock height :) I think. Lol. If you look through my threads, I created one that says "Did I get a good deal?" and there is a picture of the truck. I'm pretty certain it is stock though.

So the next question is what kind of shocks to buy. It's my daily driver and I don't forsee hauling much in it. Any recommendations besides just putting oem shocks back on it?

Ok let me lay it out for ya on the 1st gens (2nd gens too)... Pretty simple really... Our stock suspension sucks, especially the rear, the springs are soft to a major fault, Toyota listened to the wrong feedback on production.. "Make it look like a truck , but ride like a car." They were trying too hard to appease truck lovers vs,. car lovers as far as ride quality goes & the car lovers won , big time , because the same soft, sappy springs still exist today.... For what you have described earlier with the type of use you're truck sees I see no reason to: Invest in a new leafpack at this time & would upgrade the front & rear shocks with the Bilstein adjustable 5100's for the front & the 5125's for the rear, for the money spent & the improvement/performance gained there's not a better aftermarket shock you can buy for the $$$$ Just my .02...;)

Awesome thank you for your input, it's appreciated! I see that it says those are designed for lifted trucks/suv's, I'm assuming it's fine to put them on stock ride height?

For the front, perfect for 5100's , & I think now you can get some 5125 that are like "short body" shocks meaning increased dampening, don't qoute me on that I may have heard wrong, but really you'd benefit from a quality single leaf AAL that'd give maybe an inch of lift to better acommodate the standard 5125's but the big gain here isn't lift, it's ride quality, if you firm up you're rear some (I'm sorry, that sounds wrong..:eek:) All that squishy, irritating stock ride goes away...

& again, great job on you're researching & educating yourself... Damn girl, I'm really impressed now....:thumbsup:

    Here's my list of things needed done on the truck;
All the tubing under the hood, as it's stiff and cracking.
    Brakes
    Tires
    Shocks
    ~Cosmetic Wants~
    Bed Liner
    Tint

On top of all this I'm trying to move out and get a job. Looks like she's going to have to wait until spring (although I will be replacing the vacuum hoses, ect before this winter)

I'm assuming that means adding a leaf to my leaf springs? I'm not familiar with what AAL means.

I come from a car loving family, I know how important research is, I'm also a bit of an obsessive saver and always want to get the best deal. :p I check and double check everything. But I'm definitely still learning what everything's purpose is.

Still glad I bought a used Tacoma instead of a brand new Elantra (that's what I had narrowed it down to).

Question for veteran TWers... Is there a glossary around here? I've never thought of looking for that. Imma go check.

EDIT: The only thing I found was this. Good info, but little related to acronyms and abbreviations.

Not so. My truck is stock and before I got the rear leaf tsb, she rolled around corners and u turns. No more roll after new rear leafs.

Actually your both right .......Raise the vehicle without ramping up the susp. & kinda tippy to the touch....

Our stock susp. is about as soft as it comes & it's not till IT gets ramped up some firm wise that the bad habits go away....;)
