3.4L 5VZ-FE, Love it, when my 3.0L gets retired this will more than likely replace it.

My 3.0L 3VZ-E, I know most people hate it, but it has given me 225,000+ reliable miles and has gone above and beyond what I ask from it.

Only two engines that I can truly say I've worked on inside and out. I have some other favorites, but have only driven them, not worked on them.

Soon to be in the garage, 383 nestled in an all original 66 charger..
My mother in law has decided it's time to let it go.. Her late husband, Harley past away several years ago after losing a tough battle with lung cancer, and that charger was his second love. He was a tough, kind, fun loving truck driver for most of his adult life. After being on the road for a week or two at a time, coming home and cruising with his first love in that Charger were the high points in his life.. and I promised him I'd take good care of them both.

Next month, we are flying out to SLC and picking the charger up so me and my first true love can carry on the tradition.

So yeah, the 383 magnum.. not because it's the biggest, baddest most powerful mill on the block, it's so much more than any of that...

Enjoy the vintage big block...and think of your late FIL while you drive and maintain it.

Ford 302 - Had one in my old Bronco. Easy to work on and never died, despite being owned by a college kid who floored it everywhere and wasn't the best at changing oil.

Honda F4i - First engine I rebuilt, we used it in our Formula SAE car.

Subaru EJ - I love these little engines, and they sound glorious.

Cummins 6bt - Because bulletproof torque monster.

I'd also have to say the Merlin V12... why you ask? Have you heard a P51 at full throttle? That's why.

I had an ecoboost, good power, good fuel economy, bad reliability. Couldn't give me one for free.

What kind of problems did you have with the EcoBoost? I know the early F-150s had an issue with the inter-cooler and people running low octane fuel but I haven't heard of many other problems. Just curious since my next truck will probably have the 3.5L EcoBoost...

Also, you guys should check out the EcoBoost Performance Forum. Those guys are working together, and with various vendors, to develop some pretty cool stuff for their vehicles/engines...kind of what I was hoping to see when I joined this forum.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Yep, the 5vzfe sure is. 22RE had a lot of weak points in it that the newer truck engines corrected. Mainly they had real weak timing chains and plastic guides that would eventually wear through and leak antifreeze into the oil. Timing chain breakage was a common occurrence also. I'd take a 3.4 over the 22RE anyday. Also, the 2.7 4 cylinder is lightyears better than the 22RE in reliability and power and torque numbers.

22RE was good in it's day, but the newer yota engines like 2.7, 3.4, and 4.0 blow it out of the water in every category except maybe simplicity.

Of the ones I have owned: 327 Chevy, LS1 in my 2004 Corvette, and Mercury 2.5 Pro Max outboard on my Allison bass boat.

    Ones I would like to own: 426 Hemi , LS7 Z06, LS9 ZR1, LT4 Z06, maybe a Boss 429.

These would be good for a start.

2JZ-GTE and 5.9 Cummins are bulletproof. Straight 6 engines ftw!

And although not known for it's reliability the 1.3L turbo Wankel in the last gen RX-7 was very fun to spin up. So smooth and seemed to have limitless revs.

I love the GM LS series for power. Drove an LS2 powered corvette for a while, loved it. But for sound/experience I love my subaru boxer 2.5L. I've always liked a high-lobe sound of a large cam and a straight pipe.... on an STi with 280 cams, a straight pipe and a turbo I have my dream come true.

EDIT: This isn't my actual car, but a good example of how they sound when done correctly. Mine is still stock cams and a fairly mild exhaust for DD use.
