Traditional bowhunting has been a lifelong passion for me.
I hunted with Black Widow take-down recurves (MA2s and MA3s) exclusively for the first 26 years before switching to a Black Widow one-piece longbow about six years ago. Most recently I have been hunting with custom longbows made for me by Leon Stewart.

I am blessed to be able to hunt from home and share my hunting time equally between my hunting lab, Ranger and my favorite yew longbow. When the weather is crummy, I duck hunt; when the wind is right I bow hunt. And I do enjoy practicing year 'round. It comes with the turf.

Nice traditional bow! I see a lot of people at the range shooting traditional but I'm sure 90% of them would have missed that deer at 10 yards!

Within 10 yards of the best bull I've had a chance at this evening and just couldn't make it work. Freaking archery. Craziest love/hate relationship ever.

Figured I would knock the dust off this thread.
Anyone have any luck thus far hunting?
I got my girls (10&7) some beginner bows for Christmas and we have been tearing up a cardboard box the last couple of days. I hope by summer they can start shooting with me on some 3d shoots locally.
    Anyways post up some kills!

Missed a very nice eight point on 30-Oct-14. He was chasing two doe back and forth for fifteen minutes before he stopped at the only spot I didn't range. Looked to be 25 yards, looked like the arrow was tight behind the shoulder and low. Turned out it was very low and trimmed some white hair off the bottom of his chest. Turned out it was 32 yards. Still having nightmares about it......

Got my first bow for xmas from my wife. 100% brand new to archery. Never even held a bow other than the plastic ones that shot those suction cup arrows you'd get from the ice cream man.

It's a basic PSE compound bow. I've never shot a bow in my life before this and I can say I can't get enough of this. I've been shooting guns my entire life and I find that the bow is just more personal and fun to shoot. I had to drop it down to 50lbs due to the grip strength going away in my hands. I just couldn't pull it more than 10 times at 60lbs. 50lbs I can pull about 75-100 shots before I'm done for the day.

I've been talking to people at the range and a few TW members that shoot and live by me to help me sight in my bow. I couldn't get it right because I was sighting in the bow just like a gun vs. following the arrow. Lots to learn about this but I'm really excited about it.

Not to mention much cheaper than shooting guns :p

I love my guns but I shoot my bows a lot more often.

    Sweet.
Sighting in, you do follow the arrow, right?

Yeah, its like adjusting your front sight on your rifle. Follow the grouping.

I wasn't following the arrow at first. Now I am. I'm good at 20 yards now. I also had an issue where the peep site was moving around so it was throwing my aim way off, then I'd adjust for it. Now I got that fixed it only took about 20 shots to get it sighted in at 20 yards. Working on getting the 30-50 yards next.

A 10 point 4x6 taken in December followed by hog in January. A pretty good year!
