First off, you do not want to use a roller fairlead EVER with synthetic rope. Just as an FYI. Hawse fairleads are for synthetic. As for mounting it behind your bumper, I do not think there will be enough room for one, and for another, the framework of these bumpers are not designed for the type of load a winch would place on it. I can understand the desire to have a low-profile type system, and if you look around on here, there is a guy who designs just that type of mounting system. Not trying to tell you what to do with your truck, but I want you to know that the factory numper is not designed to hold that kind of force.

I put a hidden winch mount behind the factory bumper on a 2012 Tacoma and used the regular cable that came with the 8000 lb winch and the Hause fairlead by Warn and it has worked fine. I have never used anything but cable.

    ALANLOSH,

I appreciate your photos of your winch installation. It brought back memories. Since the instructions that came with that winch mount were not good, and this made me mad, I got mine mounted and it took a while. I sent the guys who made it an email and told them so. What got me was that they didn't seem to understand what Warns fit in there. I don't know if it was a failure to communicate or what. I sent them photos and the model number of the winch I used which looks like the exact same one you have. However, with most things I have worked hard for, it was worth it. I have used it and it is soooooo much better than some big chunk of bumper hanging out there! I wish I would have had your photos. I would say the most time consuming things were using the dremel to get the plastic bumper part to be a perfect fit, and to remove the bumper cowling. Enjoy.

Yeah: getting the bumper cover/front fascia loose was frustrating. Even with a printout of all the parts from the dealer, they were hard to find.
And yes, there was a lot of "hold it up, mark, trim, repeat."
I could have been a little more patient with the recovery point cut outs, but, they're a little larger than they "need to be."

But, I've had people walk right by and not see the fairlead and cable, including at the TLCA tech inspection this last weekend. "So, you don't have a winch."
Sure I do, go look again!
    :D

One more thing: I had a winch on my 2001 Tacoma, that got destroyed in a fire, otherwise I'd still have it. On that truck I had to replace the battery. I went to Car Quest, and told them I wanted a good battery as I had the winch and an Engel cooler to run. The battery they gave me was way under amped. The cooler killed it in two days. Nor did the winch work well. So when it comes time for a battery don't skimp and get a powerful one, equal to the one you truck came with.
