How safe am I to debadge a 2013 Tacoma have about 25k miles on it and live in Indiana. Just don't want to have fade marks if I go ahead with it.

I removed my tailgate badges on my '09 after nearly 6 years. hair dryer to heat, then peal off. use isopropyl alcohol to remove the residual glue, then wax and polish a few times. If I try really hard and look at just the right angle in the right lighting, I can still see a ghost of the emblems. I wouldn't worry about it though. You can always stick them back on as long as you're careful taking them off. Go for it.

Mine is a 2007, and unless you knew their were badges there before, you would never notice the fade mark. and that's on a 7 year old truck. A brand new one will probably not be noticed at all.

Has to do with UV exposure. Try it and see.

So I removed the Toyota, and Tacoma on the tailgate. no marks at all showing after applying some higher end wax. however there is a mark from a stupid dealer decal that they put on, kind of irritated about that. 54B4757D-61EA-4E3C-A1BE-564529345BBC_zps_7d931375f0c12a831ca3824db828ed3a2cf233a8.jpgDF2864B3-A3F4-48F5-9B7B-74C7A2D8B92A_zps_d2a281969d171f34a6613e4a1629ea88f360748c.jpg904281DE-92EF-4B11-9383-CA435A21574A_zps_d16c11a6b288accc286ca4e3f83ae08328c94517.jpg

I did go ahead and wash my entire truck with Turtle wax 2 in 1 and then used an additional spray wax over the entire truck. the spot you can see is left from a Toyota dealer sticker and I will probably have to buff it out or try and blend it some how. STUPID DEALERS AND THERE ADVERTISEMENTS!

I personally left the tailgate debadged, one because I broke both of them, two because imo it looks better without them.

Can try that. Ghosting is caused by UV damage to the paint and underneath the badges where the pristine paint is makes them noticeably different. Not sure that applies on one badge and not all of them, so I'm interested to see.

    Red is notorious for fade.

My Barcelona Red truck had 'ghosting' after debadging with like 10k miles. But that is also after a summer in Virginia Beach...it's evened out now and you can't even notice.

A quick wet sand and buff should take care of it. The clear coat protects the color but gets micro scratches from washing etc. this makes it look like fade. If you don't level/even it out it will show up again later. Good luck

Thanks for the input North, I have a friend that works in the detail department at a local chevy dealer. Ill see if he can help me, never sanded or buffed on a car before! When I get around to it ill post up a picture if it works.

Yeah it seems like some of the other colors don't fade as bad! I think I lucked out cause my truck is garage kept, and a little over a year old. Good to hear its evened out though! BTW that is a wicked looking Tacoma!

Here's a little update for anyone that comes across this in the future. After a few more good wax's and washes it seems to be almost unnoticeable. It looks really good now like it was done almost from factory. Just needed some good elbow grease and love.
    Used Materials
    Hair Dryer/Bake in Sun
    Braided fishing line
    turtle wax sticker remover
    Some high end wax/multiple brands
some dish soap helps 2 seems to eat at the glue compound
    Warm Water

TO HECK WITH THE FISHING LINE !!!

I am looking at the results of the debadging efforts above and all the tape left to be removed. I debadged the first several emblems of my2015 TRD Off Road using fishing line and then took the double back tape off with 3m adhesive remover. Oh, it worked well, but was a P iTA.

I then just used much thicker three stand nylon string available anywhere after I heated the emblem with a hair dryer. Much to my surprise, it sliced through like butter, never broke and didn't need to be worked slowly. Best of all, it took the entire length of double back tape right off to the paint. All I needed to do was apply a little 3m for the residual adhesive shadow with a very light buff. It took less then a minute for the largest badge on the side of the truck and then another minute of so with the adhesive removal. To heck with fishing line. No sawing, just pull steadily.

No elbow grease ! A ten year old can do it this way. You could do an entire truck in under ten minutes. Maybe, it's because the truck was so new. Next summer I will debadge my wife's two year old Venza that way !

Btw, I then popped of the Toyota emblem from behind the grill , sprayed painted it flat black and popped it back on to match the flat black grill. IMHO, it looks great !
