Yeah for sure. I was expecting a huge drop, just didn't think it'd be that big after getting 20mpg initially. Oh well. Bigger tires soon won't help either haha. But I'm sure you already knew that...;)

Completely stock, I'd be sitting at 15mpg driving across west Texas in a head wind. Your drop is not unreasonable with all the extra weight but I'd keep an eye on it and do the little things that help.

    ...too much shit to list.
Same guy that didn't do any gussets, no triangulation, and welded directly to the cab with no frame tie ins?

There's tons of internet arguments around welding 4130. At the end of the day what it all boils down to welding process. TIG by far is the best way to weld it with ER80S-B2, ER70S-2, or ER80S-D2 fillers. ER80S-B2 can provide the strongest weld IF DONE PROPERLY. ER70S-2 is not as strong (and will undermatch the strength of 4130), but its more forgiving in the welding process. FWIW, Lincoln recommends ER80S-D2 for 4130.

While technically you don't have to normalize 4130 under 1/8", you should still preheat 4130 to ~150* especially if you are trying to get the strongest weld possible (with ER80S-B2). At a minimum, the material should be room temperature (70*) or higher.

Because 4130 is so demanding in the welding/cooling process, it's far simpler to just use DOM. Personally...I would have a hard time trusting the welder's capability to use 4130 simply based on that cage design.

Buddy of mine bought a 1st gen from a guy who had "just replaced" the control arms. Well he gets it home and wants to keep it but I look and the control arms are the wrong ones and they keep rubbing. So we hit the local store, he doesn't have anything will have to special order. Really!? So we found an inexpensive oem set online from Toyota Parts Center and got her taken care of. Not as fun as building a roll cage but an easy day for sure.

Just invite me over and we'll paint your truck.

I'll show up late, "help" like I did on the brake line, and then drink your beer and eat your food. It'll turn out great!

Were they aftermarket or what? I just can't see how else you would end up with incorrect control arms.

Finally had time to do the install of my HHO system on my '01 TRD 3.4L. Seems fine; I'll be back w/ mileage gains (or losses!) as I tweak the system. Already saved a few bucks, as you run 87 octane with these.

Ol' Red's fuel efficiency dropped 1.5 mpgs just because Monte looked at it.
