Weighing my options for adding a rack to a high-back camper shell.
Ideally I'd like to have rails running length-wise so that crossbar spacing is adjustable. However the elevation would change because the back is higher than the front.
another alternative is the Yakima gutter mounts like so: [IMG]
Downside is no adjustable crossbar spacing to accomodate carriers with holes variable in fixed locations.
A possible alternative would be a used rack off a wrecked XTerra or other SUV where the front sits lower than the back, but there may be angle issues requiring custom adapters.

If you have rack on a slanted shell you're happy with, what is your setup?

    Hi,
I went to the wrecker and pulled mine off a Chevy suv, and modified it to fit.
Works great for my ski box and 12' kayaks, only now I'm thinking about a roof top tent, so now I may fab a outer ladder type rack to wrap around the canopy and sit on the bed rails. I think a terra rack would be sweet

I've got a SnugTop "Sport Hi-Liner" similar to the one in the picture you posted. I have the tracks on the top of the shell and they are fairly straight front to back/parallel to the rest of the truck.

If you have or are looking at other canopy models that are a lot more angled down towards the front, then the artificial rain gutter style might be the only simple option.

I believe they are Yakima tracks. In any case, I think the Thule ones are pretty much identical.

I was hoping to add this shell to my '17 ACLB. Can I do it with a lumber rack? Anyone have pics of comparable set up? Thanks

I used gutter plates on my hi-liner. If you go with 2 or 3 cross bars, you could get taller towers for the front and shorter ones for the middle and back. You can put the gutter plates any where you want. Maybe attach them lower in the back?
