Hi All, I just got a 2010 Tacoma TRD sport. It has the adjustable tie downs along the rail of the bed. I'm curious how strong are these? They seem a little flimsy.

I strapped my sportbike motorcycle in the back and it seemed secure but I would be hesitant to put a full size bike or larger load back there relying on those adjustable points. It does not seem like there are many other places to tie off to, what are others doing when strapping loads down?

    Any thoughts on this?

Does anyone use a different technique by passing these?

    Thanks

Adding d-rings to the floor of the bed, I have added 4 so far. Those tiedowns are really not capable of much leverage.

The individual rails are not that strong.
I'd recommend floor mounted D-rings as some people add, or something like our corner tie down brackets which tie the front and side rails together to make them stronger by utilizing both rails at the same time.

It makes the rails themselves stronger? I thought that was just another tie down point? clarification would be great, and does anyone know the limits of our rails? Limits with the corner piece?

So those D-rings just bolt in, right?

So I guess they're just good for hanging stuff on? What does everyone use their side rails for?

I see then. I have a question. If someone wanted to attach additional tie down points (or any other mod, really) to the SIDE of the bed, is it safe/strong? I understand there are plenty of options besides the inside wall for tie down points (rails, floor of bed), but I personally was given some cheap tie down swivel hooks and will probably end up mounting them to the side of the bed if it's not a dumb move.

The rails on the bed are fairly strong, but I wouldn't trust them to hold up a heavy item, like a motorcyle or large appliance. I would say if something is much heavier than 200 pounds or so, it would not be a good idea to secure it with anything attached to the factory rails.

You can get a bar for the front like mine from ccrsport. Strengthens the front of the bed so it won't flex into the cab and works great for strapping down heavy things. With 2 bikes and gear I find it much easier to use than the bed bolt d-rings. At around $130 it's pricy but I have zero regrets on buying it. Also installed some d-rings at the rear top of the bed for strapping the rear down. Easier to get to with the bed extender and bikes in the way.

the tie down rails are weak in the Taco. The rails in my Titan were serious. I'm going with Mopar #05104500AA rings at all the bed mounts then using T-nuts with hex head bolts for the rails to mount a high lift and tools with Quickmounts . I need to find some beefier rails, maybe Nissan. My Leer comes in soon and I want everything in before the snow flies.

What if you bought titan brackets and put them in your taco bed?

Secondly, how can they be stronger? They look very similar
