Still having issues with rear view mirror. Toyota refuses to fix!

I haven't been on here in a while. I love my truck but this is a small issue that has made me hate it. I hate driving after the sun goes down because my rear view mirror will NOT dim and Toyota refuses to fix it. When I call different dealers asking to bring it in and explain the issue, they don't want to set up an appointment either (Crown Toyota of Ontario said they would email me back).
Toyota of Riverside said that they pointed a flashlight at the rear view mirror and it worked which is funny because I have a 200 lumen surefire flashlight that wont make it work.
I almost got into a wreck a few times because of brodozers behind me with brights in my eyes and it still wont function!

When I emailed Toyota corporate, they told me their techs know's what they're doing. When I replied asking what the candle power or lumens required to actuate the rear view mirror or how much electricity is needed on the resistors for the screen to dim, they wouldn't respond back.

I've been polite but I've had this intermittent issue for many months and haven't gotten any help. I've actually was stuck at a train crossing and it would dim, brighten, dim brighten back and fourth sitting still with a car behind me.

What can I do about this? I am beginning to believe the Toyota haters who say that they get such a good rep because Toyota refuses to fix their issues.

    Please help.

Do you have it on at night at all? I mean you can always adjust the mirror so it does not blind you.

Do not go to Toyota of Riverside!!!
I went for an oil change under warranty and drove 8 miles home on the 91 with 2 out 6 lugnuts! They made it seem like I was causing a huge inconvenience for them when I told them they needed to come to my location to return the original black lugnuts, which they lost and offered temporary chrome ones.

    A bunch of incompetent idiots.

Yes I agree with above posters.sounds like a dealer problem more so than anything else.
Threaten a suit in small claims court if it comes to that, and also I believe California has pretty strong lemon laws, even if it is only a mirror. And finally you could threaten to run dealers reputation thru the mud by trumpeting your story. While reminding them it will cost them sales. I.E. show up in person and get ugly in front of other customer.legally, of course. They might acquiesce just to get you out of the dealership.Hope one of these suggestions helps.

Be certain the front sensor is unobstructed/nothing on the glass in front of it, as it uses this for ambient light sensing so the mirror works at the right time; e.g. if alot of street lights, diming is curtailed, etc.

Ask to see a vehicle on the lot with this mirror; shouldn't matter which model and test/compare. Use your flash light and have your vehicle side-by-side.

    Wut?

Here's our lemon laws. A mirror isn't going to do it.

I agree with the manual and would have rather had that. The truck package came with a the rear view camera screen on the mirror however plus the compass and temp.

Sucks that it's on a warrantied truck and they can't even replace it with another mirror and see if it makes any difference, that would make a definitive answer as to whether OP is imagining things or if the mirror/wiring harness has a fault.

BUT.. if you otherwise love the truck, just buy a new mirror and be done with it. Less hassle than what you're dealing with and that's worth some cash in my book.

You have a truck that is still under the Toyota 3 yr. Mfg. warranty. Take your problem to the finance dept. or the dealership Gen. Mgr. They HAVE to fix it.

One of my buddies I served with just left toyota service not too long ago, he's becoming a cop. Anyways, he told me that they get only X amount of warranty repairs a month so even if people have a legitimate complaint, they have to blow smoke up their ass because toyota wants to keep repairs down low.
Pretty shady right? Its like me saying I've never screwed up in my life and justify it by not acknowledging my mistakes. I called the dealer I bought it from again today and got an appointment. If its something I'm doing wrong, they better tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can not get blinded at night.
I understand I can just "buy a mirror if I love the truck". Maybe 30 grand is chump change to you guys but I bought a loaded truck wanting the best and am paying for it for the next six years. I'm not paying for faulty equipment.

I have problems with almost ALL autodimming mirrors, no matter what the brand. I don't think the technology is really ready.

I had a rental not long ago of a Chrysler 300. The auto dimming mirror was superb! Even when the sun was coming down it started to dim just enough to make it comfortable and its reaction time was great! The technology is there but sad that a pos company like Chrysler can get it right but Toyota cannot.

What trim level was the 300?

One could argue that the 300 more of a higher end vehicle for it's class than the Tacoma is.

A small claims case.... over a mirror?

Do you understand what "small claims" is? He has to have a specific loss, an amount of money that he can point to and say: "I am out this much because of the actions of this person". What is he out due to an allegedly malfunctioning auto dim mirror?

If the guy walked into the dealer and threatened a small claims case they'd ignore him even more than they are now becaues they could see thorugh the bullshit.

OP, not to be a dick, I understand that you want your shit to work; but seriously, you are going to claim that an lack of a working dimming feature on your mirror is the major factor in near accidents you are having at night time? Is the X cab of your truck not factory tinted, to start with? Even if you have the baseiest base they make, and it is not tinted; seriously? Bright lights behind you are going to cause you to crash? Mmmkay....
