Ok currently I'm running 285/70/17 KM2's on my truck and I have loved them but its almost time to replace them. Originally I just planned on getting the same tires again, yet, the new KO2's have peaked my interest. They are also around 50 bucks cheaper per tire than the KM2's, a 200 dollar savings (according to bfg website). My concern is am I going to get similar off road performance with the new KO2's that I have in the past with my KM2's.

    Most common offroading

    1. Dry loose dirt (been a drought in CA if you hadn't heard)
    2. Sand (beach and river)
    3. Deep Snow (if we see any good rain this year)
    4. Desert
    5. Rock (minimal, not much body armor yet)

What I'm thinking is if the KO2s are better in dry and sandy conditions and similar in the snow (i.e. not constantly causing me to get stuck and hold up the group or causing me to worry about sliding off the side of a mountain) then they may be the better option.

I know the new KOs are not out yet so no one here will probably have much experience with them, unless they were part of bfg's test group, but figure there might be quite a few who have run the a/t's and m/t's in all of these areas and have some good input.

Thanks again and also only looking at the BFG tires been running there M/Ts for years and loved there on/off abilities.

Are you needing to replace themASAP? I would wait until the new KO's come out and until there are some good and solid reviews on them. I have loved my km2s and they have done great in all conditions(have not been in snow yet).

the KO2 is the same tire as the KO...just different sidewall, so the reviews outta be the same.

Ya but I do like the look of the KO2s and the fact that they are around 200 bucks cheaper for a set, but don't want to go that route and find out after the fact that they suck off road. BFG's website rates them as lasting longer and getting better MPG's. Just wondering if these cost effective reasons would make them the better choice?

For the uses you described, you are almost better going with the KO2 that have more biting edges, more siping, and longer tread life. The KM2 will have the advantage in mud....

Ya only time I really hit the mud is just when the trail demands it. Not a big fan of getting under my truck with a pressure washer every weekend to try to get it all off to try to help avoid the notorious frame rust our trucks can be prone to.

I did see though that the size I run may not be getting released in the KO2 until a later date. 285/70/17 I was under the impression that they would be coming out this November but I guess its only limited sizes for the initial release. If this is the case I'm not sure that I have the life left in my current KM2's to get me through to the release of the KO2 in 285/70/17.

Might be forced by BFG to go with the KM2 again.

I'm personally waiting on the new AT KO2s... I've been wanting a set of the originals since I had my blazer and never got the chance. I've used KM2s for a while on a Jeep Rubicon and loved them for hardcore wheeling, but I'm talking about mostly rocks, hills, slight mud... They felt like garbage on the road when it was wet and downright dangerous when it was snowy. Wouldn't ever recommend them as a DD in places that get snow... for you, it might work, but I still think what you described fits an AT perfectly.

I wanna know if the KO2 will be released in 255/80/17 at the outset , can't seem to find a list of the sizes they are initially offering

not sure why you'd be running km2's where you live and under those conditions.

I was out in 29 Palms for 5-6 years and I ran the original KOs on my Ranger. I think the KO2s would do you a lot better than the MT.

I would agree that the KO2 should fit your conditions a lot better than the KM2, and get better mileage. I was very happy with my old weather checked and worn out KO's (although I just sold them because they were done lol) I only wanted more tire after almost getting stuck in a nasty silt/mud hole and on driving on slick mud/clay.

I know my KO's work Very Well in all of the terrain you listed so why would the KO2's be any different.

KO2's? I didn't even know they redid that tire. Personally, I think they are wayyyyy overpriced. So far, my Cooper's have been every bit as good for half the price.
