I have been wanting to get one for my truck but haven't researched them. Is this a plug and play type unit? Are there any wires that have to be ran to the trailer plug?

I'm not sure about your 07 but with mine (factory tow package) there is a female connector tucked away by the e-brake that this plugs directly into. That female connector is what sends power to the trailer brakes from the controller.

Mine came with the tow package but with a 4 way plug and not a 7 way plug, so I'm guess I would have to run the extra wires needed.

Correct, the 4-pin is just for lights...no brakes.
