Just bought this truck the day the leaf spring recall was announced.

Has anyone had the CRC applied to your truck? 10 days later, it's still wet.

What gives? How long does it take to "cure."

    Thanks

Mine was dry the day it was done. I picked it up the same day it was finished and it was dry to the touch.

I picked mine up today. There's nothing dry about it. Nasty goo that takes citrus pumice soap to get off my arms.

Although, thats not a bad thing, as it allowed me to clean some overspray in the engine bay. Carb cleaner (or MAF cleaner, as that's all I had on the shelf) makes easy cleaning.

I bet the muffler will be dry soon, LOL. Half the thing is covered in goo. Really stinks when hot.

Picked mine up today too. Wet sticky goo. Hope it is tacky or better but not gooie by next week. Got stuff to do..

Wish they had covered up my coilovers as I asked.

There's overspray everywhere on my truck. They could have sprayed the rusty skid plates, but no, they took 'em off to get to the frame and never tightened them back up. I glad I checked them.

They also removed the bed to get to the frame and while doing so bent the aluminum frame to my hard shell tonneau cover, didn't space it right, so it scratched the drivers side bed at the hinge point by the cab.

At least the leaf springs look okay.... I think.

Thank you for the info blacktaco, that gives me a little peace of mind.

Do you know exactly what the CRC actually is??? It obviously contains some petroleum products!

I used to be the quality mgr. at a major commercial trailer mfg back in the day. 18 wheeler type. We used this kind of stuff to coat the undercarriage of the trailers. It is a Mil-C-16173 type 4 compliant material. Dries to a waxy touch. Always removable with solvents. Never really dries...except to the touch. Usually lasts about 24 months. Great protection properties against salt and water corrosion and good penetration into cracks and crevices. The only two issues I know of is that it 1) covers existing cracks and 2) is not permanent. But it is great stuff.

I had the CRC recall done like the first week it was available. I believe it was done the last week of May (4 and 1/2 months ago) if I remember correctly.

There's nothing dry about this stuff. I mean, yeah the first day it was like a straight up liquid film... but 4 months later, it's still gooey. It's not as shiny as the first day, but if you touch it or accidentally swipe the frame with your shirt while working under your truck or something... guess what, it'll be black and oily as all hell. It's just like tar.

I don't really care though... I mean, it's free, it works so whatever... people should just know that it will never really cure like rhino liner or some shit and be aware when their hands and clothes are nearby.

I was curious, does anyone know how much money dealer receives for the crc recall?
    Thx,

In my opinion , the CRC coating is just a way to push the vehicle a few years down the road and hide further rusting of the frame to avoid having to warranty the frame as a whole . Any guess as to what happens in 2-3yrs when holes start to show in the frame due to rusting from the inside out ? I'd bet you'll be told to go pound sand ....and live with a vehicle that will eventually break in half , just like the older mini-trucks .

Just got mine done. The service rep said $750. Not sure how true that is but they definitely don't make that much money doing the CRC - Especially when compared to a complete frame replacement.

Interesting. As a former Ford F-150 owner (7 of them in a row), although I'm somewhat concerned about my frame, I know that Toyota will cover it for many, many more years than Ford (or GM or FCA …) would hands down. Let's not forget that nothing lasts forever and even though these frames may not last as long as some folks might like, Toyota has certainly gone out of its way to make good on them. If the extended coverage - which I believe is 12 years - gets you a new frame at 12 years, and your new frame lasts another 12 years, I'd say that's pretty good. Just my opinion.
