So what is the date you had in mind to work on the lift? I'm busy this weekend but got next weekend off. If you can wait until then I'll come down to help.

Ya Raycie I've got some tall stands and a bigger jack ( unfortunately a Chinese jack, should be fun)

As for days, I don't work until Oct 16-18, and then I do 3 off 3 on for the foreseeable future. I don't have too much going on until the 16th though, little errands to run if this little project doesn't take all day.

Have you guys taken coils out without compressors, just using the floor jack?

I've done this method on hondas, but I fear the stronger truck springs. Another option is to take it into aNY shop with a heavy duty spring compressor and have them swap it out. Usually charge an hours worth of work but safe. Lmk what works for you and Ill try to make it.

No thanks. Not doing that again. If truck is too light, it will lift the truck before it compresses the spring enough to start the nut. I'm not gonna use the shitty spring compressors anymore either. Take it to a shop that has a branick.

when I had to finish my 886 install for the driver-side, I had to use the LCA-floor jack method....after exploding this other beefier spring compressor I was using.

the trick to using the floor jack is to reach in and spin the top of the shock as it'll get caught on the rubber top hat won't extend until enough tension is created(lifting the truck) hehe

Now I am no mechanic by any means, but it seems to me that the absolute only danger in this method lies with the jack. If the truck has the E brake on, blocked off, and you have the jack on a level surface an secure it, how could there be a problem? The weight of the truck has the coil sitting where it does at all times, using the jack just inches that compression weight off the spring. Even without the bolt secured in the top hat, there is still the bolt there keeping it centered, so it would have to miraculously go against its own spring pressure to slip out.

    that works too lol

    pretty much.

I've noticed that with the jack and lifting that corner of the truck, but not a whole lot...if the truck starts to lift, and the shock isn't sticking up through the top hat, then it needs to be wiggled a little as it got a little stuck. other than that, it's a pretty safe method with minimal tools.

Yes, well I have tried it and it lifted the truck with the stiffer springs. So the guys had to run around and find a shop with a real spring compressor to do it at the last minute. Good luck with your install tho. And I never said LCA method was unsafe.

All military hobby shops have wall mounted spring compressors.

Did mine at the hobby shop. You cant beat it. Truck up on the lift, all the tools you need, and its only like $5 an hour.
