So I narrowed it down to these two tires. I will be getting P rated tires. Mostly highway/street driving. Southern california so mainly dry pavements with a little rain here and there. I also snowboard during the winter but yet to see days where we really need to use chains or 4x4. Would like to try some dirt/light offroading sometime also. If you guys have experience with both tires please let me know. I found a shop that can get the Hankooks for $140 mount and balance right now and theres also a $50 rebate so it would be $510 for all 4 hankooks mount and balance which seems like a great deal to me. But if the Toyo AT II are that much better, i wouldnt mind paying a little extra for them. please let me know your opinions and experiences.

I don't know first hand how the hankooks are but the toyos are very good. A little noise at highway speeds but they handle great in dry and rain and they look great. Haven't driven in snow yet so can't say anything about them but I had a set of original toyos on my 1st gen and they did well.

Thanks! I also saw that they are 65,000 warranty.

I had the original Open Country AT on my '05 and they were great... lasted 35,000 miles before the tread was too thin for my liking. I put on Cooper Discoverer ATRs and they were equal to the Toyos in performance.

On my 2010, when the BFG Rugged Fails got replaced (at 20,000 miles), I bought the Dynapro ATMs (P rated)... and I was in love with them as they were quiet on the highway, worked great in mud, snow and Baja sand... the only issue was I felt the need to replace them at 31,000 miles, so a little under what I was hoping for.

I am running Destiny Dakota ATs (Pep Boys) and they have been great so far (17,000 miles). Hwy. quiet, great in Baja on the beach. Have not had them in mud or snow yet.

I seriously like the Toyo Open Country AT II looks... but I think I will give the Hankook's another try in the LT version to see if I can get more miles out of them... the tread pattern was that impressive.

As for why I don't get 50-60,000 miles... I am not sure, as I am not aggressive driver, I do the chalk test to find the perfect tire pressure (it was 35 psi on the Dynapros)... ??

Thanks David. That's great info. You mentioned how well the hankooks performed in the different terrains, but only stated that the toyo were great. Can you tell me how they performed in different terrain?

Last year I put the AT2s on my 4runner, then we got the most snow we've had in years. They dominated. I recently sold it to my gf and got a tacoma, so yesterday I put a new set of AT2s on my truck. I liked them enough to buy them again. I have had the P rated versions on both rigs, and do similiar driving to what you do. Mostly road with a little light off road, and I snowboard as well. I love them, but I have no experience with the Hankooks.

Oh, and the original AT got very bad reviews btw. The AT2 apparently is greatly improved.

I had them on for 35,000 miles on my '05 and I don't recall any issues on any surface. Most of my four wheeling is on deep sand. There was no highway noise with them either. I just don't recall using them in mud or snow... that was back in 2007-2008, I think.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm still debating between the two. Love the aggressive look of the toyos, but been bearing good things bout mpg on the hankooks.

atII i wanted those but accidentally got the mt... long story short, orw sucks. toyos are fairly HARD rubber, which is why they last a long time. the tread is beefy as well. they have both been making tires since the 40s. toyo is japanese (made in USA) hankook is korean and not yet made in the USA (2016)

Im in the same boat as u, even with the same 2 tires. :)
Ive decided to go with the toyo's. because of good reviews and I want try a 285/75/17. (34"s) :D

I love my duratracs but want something alittle bigger than a 285/70/17. a
And my mpg's I would like better too, but that might not happen with a slightly bigger tire.

I have the Toyo MT's and love them. By no means are they the ultimate tire for everything but I have yet to have my tires be the limiting factor on where or when I go anywhere. Snow mud rain you name it

curious, since im looking at the toyo AT2 P vs. LT versions... but im also leaning most towards the cooper discoverer AT3s as a P-tire. Check out the specs... price + specs seem very solid!

did u already decide against them? if so, what was the reason?

this is for my 16'' rims.
