Depends on what you mean by "rides better". If you want a soft cushy ride, then the 5100s will not do that, as they will firm up the ride due to firmer shock valves. If you also lift the truck with the fronts, the you will preload the springs which, again, will firm up the ride more.

For me, the 5100s were better as I wanted a firmer "truck" ride. For you,,, depends on what you want.

Billy's all around. 1.75 up front. Fisher HT 6'8" Steel blade. Custom bed rack. Mt Shasta.
I just had 5100's put on all fours and it has been a great improvement! Haven't used them off-road yet but I did notice an improvement with towing my 3500# boat.

set mine at 1.75 with stock TRD OR coils, and LOVE the slightly extra firmness, it rides like it should now.

for a simple leveling shock i don't think they can be beat for the price. i agree with the others that they offer a better ride than the stock bilsteins.

I ran 5100s set at 0 ome 883 springs and I was not a fan of the ride. It's great on smooth roads, but if the road was patched and had potholes etc it would rattle my dash. Even worse if you ever drove on a fire road with washboard ripples. They are good shocks but I think they suffer a little on the initial stroke of the suspension when you preload the spring. If your going buy the 5100s and springs I would spend a little more and get a coilover like fox 2.0. I just switched and it's 10x better then my 5100s with ome springs. HD I done it first the price difference is only a few hundred. Plus they come complete and ready to install instead of having to swap around parts and compress springs. Just do some research and thinking term.

I just had 5100s put on to replace the ancient OEM Bilsteins. Those were probably never replaced since the truck was new in '05. The fronts are just set at 0 for now with the stock OR coils but it has made a HUGE difference. Whether or not you want any lift, I recommend the 5100s so far. Time will tell if I decide to get some coilovers and new leaf springs later on.

I installed a complete set on my Taco about a year ago. I was impressed by the improved ride. I think it is one of the best mods you can do to your Taco. Quite a bit beefier than the original Bilsteins.

I'm a big fan of Bilstein shocks. I've run them in a few different trucks. I prefer the adjustable Rancho RS 9000s though.
