Just got my truck about 3 weeks ago 2014 TRD Sport. Tailgate happened to be down when I got rear ended. Tailgate is crunched and my rear bumper is damaged the gap between the bed and the cab is different. Any advice? New member.

That sucks. I'm sure the insurance thing will be sorted out without too much hassle.

When it does get settled, take the money you get and but a plate bumper. Next time it won't be a hit and run because they won't be able to run with their engine in their lap.

Yeah I'll have to looking into getting something upgraded if insurance will cover. One thing is for sure i'll carry a trailer hitch from now on.

I always have my hitch in too but have heard that since that is connected straight to the frame you have a much higher chance of "totaling" the truck if you get rear ended with the hitch in.

That would make sense my hitch receiver wasn't even touched but the whole bed moved almost rubbing with the cab.

Westin lights, Westin Light bar holder, New front bumper, Custom floor matts, Steering wheel cover, board in bed to keep groceries from rolling around, new radio, New flat bed cover.
    I have 4 things I would suggest.

    1. repair bed bumper and tailgate from spare parts from a salvage yard I dont think that the 2014 models bed tailgate and bumper are that mutch different from a 2006-2013 and do it yourself that is if the frame is not bent because the gap is different.

    2. Do all the above but have a mechanic fix it.

    3. Sue the person that rear ended you and use the money to fix it. (just joking) but if they were uninsured or doing something stupid the benefits/ money would be good.

    4. compleatly ignore the damage and just tape the tailgate up and dont do anything.

Personally I would go with #2 if you are not a good "fix it yourself" person.

    Hope this helps

Haha yeah I stay pretty busy with work and school so I'll end up having to have someone do it for me. I also would like just to make sure my frame isn't bent or anything. From what people have been telling it might be that bed shifted on the bolts with hopefully no frame damage.

That sucks! Could have been a lot worse though. We would definitely have an auto body shop check for any further damage and why your gap is different.

We might know of a good place to get a plate bumper though *wink wink :D

Yeah I hope to go get it looked at this week. If insurance covers it a plate bumper might be something to upgrade it too.
