Evil replaced two factory (aka very quiet) cats with a single aftermarket universal, probably hi flow. That could introduce extra noise into the cab, plus the location of the cat and muffler...not to mention potentially crappy butt welds with overlaps, or other issues at all the connections. From the outside, Evil's setup sounds similar to my second cat delete plus cherry bomb instead of muffler setup w/horrible leaky welds (big drunkin mistake I made last weekend ) It sounds kinda good but too loud inside and out. I'll try to make a sound clip before I change my stupid setup, as soon as my neighbors aren't home. geeezzzz!!!

Two cat's vs. one could be a significant noise adder no matter what muffler you have. For a time, I ran my prelude with no cat and it sounded louder and raspy with backfires.

Tooter.. your final setup is a custom 2.5" mandrel bent cat-back (both factory cats untouched) with Flowmaster muff, right? What model # is the muffler and did you tilt it sideways?

My present system is an LCE long tube header...

My stock exhaust pipe was 2 3/8" equivalent metric sized tubing. I went with slightly smaller diameter 2 1/4" diameter tubing so as not to lose my low end torque, and the dyno results were good.

I think it being an automatic has a lot to do with it as well. I think I'd enjoy it quite a bit more if it wasn't for the torque converter. The meandering drone noise in stop and go traffic is horrible.

At this point debating between installing one of these, or cutting it all off and finding another solution.

    Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonator

It should replace the function (sound wise) of the 2nd CAT, and some, right?

^^ I've heard GREAT reviews from the Prelude community about the vibrant ultra quiet resonator. But only in regards to lowering the sound volume and rasp, not eliminating drone. Try contacting vibrant and ask about drone reduction for your setup. It sucks, but its really hit or miss when building your own exhaust system.

T@co_Pr3runn3r... along with nickonfire, I'd also like to hear the Gibson. How was the quality of the welds, SS tubing and fitment?
It's the only fully bolt-on exhaust i'm considering. Otherwise, i'm going custom like Tooter.

I got the aluminized one. Welds are fine, fit is perfect. I have been super busy with stupid hours at work lately but will try to get a video of it as soon as I can find a decent time and place to get it done. Rumbly and burbully with no drone about sums it up tho........

tooter... where did you get the heat shield and those monster sized worm clamps? It definitely will help keep the heat off the bed - good job man.

Hey, sorry man... I haven't been here in a few days. The heat shield came from ebay for $30 and free shipping. If you decide to get one, make sure it's made for your model of muffler as there's a few different ones offered. It came with those long stainless worm clamps. Flowmaster mufflers have no packing material in them so they get hotter than blue blazes.

for anyone having excessive noise/drone... check the position of the downpipe and header collector. mine was way off (thank you douche bag exhaust shop). the spring loaded ball joint connection can move.

I like the big Magnaflow 12586 a lot. It has a really smooth mellow sound and no cab drone.

    IMG_0002_zpsf52ebb45_0cf97966265548ea7eb9f85f8ab006dae2a8e68d.jpg

I just like the Flowmaster sound better.

Jeez, I wished I knew you were getting one... :frusty:

...as I'll be putting my used Magnaflow up for sale. It's in pristine condition with no dents, and even already has the hangers on it to fit a Tacoma. I had the muffler guy remove it cleanly and grind off the welds so as to preserve the flanges.

I took mine into Midas to have it checked for leaks, convinced it couldn't just be the muffler. They shoved a rag in the tail pipe (not sure why I didn't think of that) and it went quiet.

They put it up on the lift and I was shocked to find the smallest CAT possible (like two 12 oz cans end to end) installed up front, pipe, then the Magnaflow. With a CAT that small it's no wonder the damn thing is droning like it is.

I have the Magnaflow direct fit CAT on order and will be having it installed next week. If that doesn't fix it I'm getting an electric conversion.

Header has been installed. So the video below (thanks tooter!) is with the 50 Series Flowmaster muffler and LCE header.

The header made the sound much "smoother", not really much louder. I like! :D
