Agreed, I would be terrified if I saw that on the road.

I don't want to even imagine how much it bounces around at 110KMPH in wind let alone if a pot hole came into the equation

I'm too lazy to save the photo and paste it so here is the link

That is on a six foot bed and only looks to be a 154. Imagine two sleds, up higher, and the same length or longer. I thought about building a deck for a single sled for my long bed but my sled is over 11 feet long. As cool as it would be to have one, it would look ridiculous and with two sleds you will probably be pulling wheelies when you accelerate.

I will also chime in......dont do it! Why wreck your truck or at the least speed up its death. I agree 100% with spoonman. Get a full size if you want to rock out with a sled deck.

I realize this is a way late on this thread but this is one of the only places I found people talking about 2 place sled decks for Gen 2 Tacomas. I wanted what tfeltz73 a way to carry 2 sleds on my tacoma without a trailer because I live in an area where I can't keep a trailer and I'm unwilling to buy a bigger truck that gets terrible gas mileage. So instead of building a sled deck I built an easily removable flat bed for my Tacoma. The conversion to put everything back to normal is less than 2 hours. So I'll drive this through the winter and put my normal bed back on in the summer. I've tested it out on the canyon and it handles corners bumps just fine. No swaying, No tipping. The only thing that is a must is you HAVE TO have airbags installed. Running high psi in the bags keep the deck from swaying in the corners, keeping the center of gravity where it should be.

wow thats a nice looking deck. might have to look into that myself. i hate towing a trailer when ive got my sleds with me. ive got the garage space for them so dont need the covered trailer as was suggested above.

A ready to ride sled is around 525 lbs, that's not counting accessories and snow/ice. I don't see how you can have 2 sleds + Deck + Ramp + full fuel in truck + 2 guys + gear coming in anywhere near the max allowed weight in a Taco. You are probably carrying twice that. I feel I'm pushing my Taco with one sled on a deck!

I went and weighed it today. 2 passengers, full tank of gas in the truck and sleds, all our gear, ready to go snowmobiling, 5520lbs. So slightly over the GVWR but not much.

The flat bed looks awesome! I would love to have a sled deck but realize I'm going to need a new Tundra ext cab with air bags, or a 3/4 ton. Currently I use a open trailer with 2 sleds, or if I'm going alone I'll throw my Freeride 146 in the back, I don't use any platform or anything currently. The narrow stance fit's between the wheel wells.

Big springs, air bags etc. the fact still remains it's going to be top heavy and the center of gravity will be a lot higher on something that's already high to begin with. Just out of curiosity how much does a sled deck cost? Seems like a two place trailer would be a bit cheaper and you can buy them used most anywhere and you can leave the sleds and trailer home when you want to the mall. It’s hard on the truck it’s had on the owner and harder on the tow truck driver when he has to deal with two sleds when it falls over.

Most factory made sled decks are $2500-$4500 depending on materials and options. An open 2 place trailer is definitely cheaper but depending on where your going, if you have to drive on logging roads, through mud, and not much area to turn around or park the sled deck has an advantage. It's also higher up keeping road grime off your sleds. For me an enclosed trailer is my next purchase and maybe down the road in a few years I "may" go to a tundra then the sled deck will be an option. A double cab tundra TRD will only be just over capacity with a aluminum deck and 2 sleds. I would definitely do air bags.

I'd guess doing this as strictly a purpose-built truck, you'd could do this and stay under GVWR.

Although a little high and heavy, not terribly different from a camper, or workshop, even a ladderrack with a few planks and ladders.

Wouldn't run it in a slalom race, but driven with sense, shouldn't be a problem.

UtahYota, that is a great system!
By my estimation you are only 20# overweight, not a big deal and definitely not something that would shorten the life of the truck.
Can you provide more details about the build?

Many full sized trucks would be more overweight with a higher CG with two sleds and a 400+# sled deck.

I pulled a trailer that was over weight, once. Once. I can guarantee you it will never happed again. Seriously, never overload your truck.
