I have a 98' Tacoma, xcab, 4wd, when I apply the brakes during the daytime they are dim, not any brighter than just turning on the parking lights. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Replace the bulbs and check the fuses.

Clean the contacts and grounds, if that doesnt work check the voltages. Incan bulbs will light poorly with low volts.

LEER Shell with dome lights operated with 3 way switches, aux backup lights with relay and 3 position switch, modified wiring to compass/temp display and clock to include switch that disables dimming function (poor man's DRL solution), Scan Gauge 2
Grounding problem. Do the brake lights work at all when the tail lights are on? If the ground for the rear taillight assemblies is bad the brake lights will try to ground through the tail light bulbs. Sometimes that results in no brake lights at all with headlights/taillights on.
