What I think: I have not heard anything exept on The fast lane truck. Where I also heard the nissan frontier might also get redesigned. Also HOLD OFF ON BUYING THE TRUCK IN IT'S FIRST YEAR perhaps even it's second. wait for all of the reliability kinks to get worked out (although it is a taco but it might have some)

I'm still waiting on my reliability kinks to be worked out on my 2013, and Toyota just recalled reliability kinks from 2006-2011 leaf springs, don't forget the reliability kinks from first (and second) gen frame recalls either.

Other than that, Tacoma is bulletproof.

Those aren't bullet holes, that's me testing my frame with a screwdriver. :(

    From Toyota,

    Sorry sir,

We know you can put a screwdriver through your frame but we don't replace frames until hitting your brakes and gas at the same time causes these symptoms:

Even then we may just add a rust preventing agent.

You know, you and I think alike in this regard. But to be fair, the Op bought a second year 2nd gen, and says it's been good to him with over 250K miles.

Sometimes I forget you can take a chance on Toyota products like that, on the other hand I wouldn't take a GM, Chrysler or Ford product the first year out. With domestic brands, the first couple years out, the consumer is the R&D dept or beta testers of the product.

Yes, I have discovered recently, and it seems the 3rd generation will closely resemble the Hilux. It has been spotted in Europe and Africa in test phase, mountain/desert/off-road trials.

I agree. I think all the car companies use John Q. Public as the real testing grounds.

+1 Not really a bad idea and quite wise, if you want something 100% ground-up. It is easy to be deceived by an exterior shot of a vehicle, as a ground-up redesign. The 2016 that goes into production in 9 months, will be a re-skinning and power train improvement.

I had carelessly assumed with my TMMTX links and research skills, I knew well enough. Not quite, as it appears that was a clever super facelift and not even on a brand new platform like the 2005.

I think that pbm told some of you to look at the 2015 Camry versus 2014.5, then you'll see what I mean between 2015 versus 2016 Tacoma. Very deceiving in many ways, except probably better differentiation interior-wise than the Camry.

I guess that the 2016 Hilux will be much more of a redesign than the Tacoma, as Toyota wants to save their money for their other brands and foreign markets.
