My head is spinning on this one, I joined this forum to see if anyone has ideas. Failed in VA for

    • If the air bag indicator fails to light or stays on continuously.
My trusted mechanic bypassed the module and it is not the bulb nor the fuse. He said I need a new module, which is not made, nor does anyone have any in stock. I went back to the inspector and he said he won't pass it.

I'm at a loss, the inspector actually told me I may need to total this 1995 Tacoma with <100k, that runs absolutely perfectly, minus an airbag light that won't light up.

Ask around and find a inspector that is not a hard ass. Good luck!

Most airbag inflators have a ohm rating of 2.2 or 2.4 so if you could remove the steering wheel and remove the connector to the airbag unit, you can solder a resistor to the connector and bypass the airbag. Your airbag unit will no longer work but the light should work like the airbag is good.;)

This is actually a good idea. You already knew the module was bad anyway. If you do a 'fix' like this though, be sure to disclose it if you ever sell (I've had a buyer sign a discloser letter before, and I keep it on file just in case).

    WARNING!!!!!!!

I forgot to add this, DO NOT.......DO NOT try to read the ohms across the airbag inflator itself. It requires only a tiny amount of voltage/amps to set the airbag off. It will deploy and injury and burns will occur.

Have you chatted with a Toyota dealer? No way you would total a perfectly good working truck due to an SRS fault. I bet many states would not even check that. SRS modules need to be replaced over time, so there must be a replacement for it. Go to the dealer, they will have an answer.

If you start mucking around with the system like reading resistance or bypassing with resistors and all that, you better have that unit out of the truck, on a bench, and know what you are doing, or you will wind up deploying it and have more problems on your hands.
