I don't see how they can get away with charging this, this is 100% the dealer trying to make money and nothing to do with Toyota. Technically the mechanic is already getting paid to take a standard bumper off, so if anything they should give you a break down of how much time that takes and how much they are getting paid to do it, and then subtract that from whatever they quoted you to take your plate bumper off.

Either way, I would say the only reason it is coming off is because of an issue that you didn't cause so you shouldn't have to pay and they should take it up with Toyota to get paid more. I don't see anywhere on the LSC that says that aftermarket parts will be charged extra.

Does anybody know if there is a VIN range that they are working off of or is it only by area of country??? And can anyone link the LSC by chance?

They are also charging some people for lower control arms since after a few years the won't come off with out cutting.

If they try to charge me with anything else, i'm taking my keys and doing the longest burnout they've ever seen right off the lot until my diff explodes.

Maybe start by saying you will take it to another dealer and see where that gets you.... Then if that doesn't work, burnout time.

The dealership is the one making out the best on this deal, they are profiting from this just like any other warranty work so they may change their tune.

my frame is in good shape, just some surface rust in certain areas.. no perforated areas whatsoever.
after this winter I'm going to pull the bed and cab off, prep & treat the frame the right way.

the brine solution they use up here in the N.E. is just terrible. it finds it's way into the frame channel and will reactivate multiple times. even sticking a hose or power washer under your truck, which is a good approach, isn't enough.

I have found using a miracle-gro sprayer with baking soda will neutralize the salt brine. it's added maintenance after the winter.

I just had my 2005 inspected and am getting a new frame. They said it will take 2 to 3 months until they get the parts. I have a 3 inch lift and was told it will be no problem to put it back on for me at no charge. My hole was in the same spot by the cat on the driver side.

After an almost 2 month wait while driving three different Toyota loaner models I got a phone call at 4:50pm today that my truck is done and will be ready for pick up tomorrow at 10AM (Saturday). So I tell service rep that I have plans for Saturday and can pick up my Tacoma on Monday AM, well he tells me that I have to pick up my truck Saturday because they have to report to Toyota and will not get reimbursement on the loaner car. What a bunch of crap, I have been waiting for 2 months without the use of my truck and a day or two is going to rock their world! This will be my last Toyota purchase.

Ask them how much they are going to charge your for storage of your truck until next business day as well????
I suppose that they want to get rid of your vehicle and want the loaner returned ASAP - but as you say, after months you figure a little customer goodwill would be nice.

I'm sure they would be pissed if you called them every day for 2 Months asking if it will be ready the next day and you would like to pick it up if it is ready so you can be sure you are free to do so .........

Sorry for late reply, working a lot. Picked up my truck as per last Saturday,
I have no complaints, they did a great job and it does drive better than new.
The service rep said when leaving dealership "you have new truck now"?!?
I replied back, "Oh, did you replaced the engine and transmission also?" I drove off leaving him standing with the deer in the headlights look.

    I had a thought.

Has anyone with a well rusted frame started to notice that they are getting vibrations (that are not thought to be tire / balance/issues) after the frame started to get perforated??

My thought is that with a weakened frame harmonic vibrations are causing the frame / drive train to vibe do to the lack of strength in the frame???

    Just Wondering ....

Just a thought, but what if I "sold" my truck to my father in law who is a KY resident, and since KY is on the list of cold weather states, I'm wondering if Toyota would replace the frame for him once he registered it? Good idea or bad?????

Turning mine in today, full frame replacement at no charge. They're gonna install some new shocks when they put it back together for me too! Any recommendations? Rancho, Bilstein?
