Actually the money wasn't wasted. You learned something. Do Not over tighten brass. It is a good thing it was the brass. If it was steel and you borked the oil pan you would be shitting.

But if I make it so tight maybe just maybe the 1mm I get will give me tons of clearance.

my dealer give you the crush washer with the filter purchase; don't think they track them too seriously. I do use them over and over though if I don't have a new one. Maybe be certain there's a little new oil on the pan side of the washer - usually wipe it clean but maybe a bad idea as it'll stick to the paint?

Mine gets stuck too, but I just wipe it clean and screw the oil pan bolt back in. Done it on three oil changes already. No leaks.

A good while ago they used copper gaskets instead of crush washers. On my wifes old Camry Wagon I used the factory washer as long as she had the car ~ 199,000 miles.

Single edge razor blade works fine for removing baked on oil pan gaskets. Hold firmly and take your time.

I agree. I bought one of these from Griot's Garage several years ago and it still works great. Beware that there are many copies on the web that come with "short" hoses. If you buy one of these, you won't be siphoning much.

Not just for oil. Can siphon transmission pans with no drain plug, power steering and brake reservoirs. Turkey basters are usually dead after one
use as the chemicals kill the seal.
