I soldered the 510 that popped off and connected the two harnesses and it works again! Except I cannot find those darn clips
If it ever does this again, I will replace them with the 52 ohm resisters that I have which are a higher wattage than the 510's
The 510's have a tollerence of 5%, so I should be good and the higher wattage will sink more current
Thank you very much for the great info!
    I love this forum

What a great write up...I thought I was going to have to purchase another overhead, but I just soldered the 510 resistors...worked like a champ.

I melted the plastic on the 510, melted the plastic holding the board, lost a metal clip...and dripped solder on the LCD metal and burned my LCD screen. BOY I fucked this one up...now what.

My Compass/Temp does not look like any of the posted circuit boards. No resistors are labeled with mentioned numbers

I never brought it back. I walked in with the part in hand. The guy said it would have to be reinstalled, and they would need at least an hour to verify it doesn't work.

^hmmm maybe they changed it because it was breaking too frequently?

    Is yours broken?

I can't tell from your pic, but all of the parts look to be in place. When ours die out, the 510 resistor is obviously disconnected from the board

Lay a layer of solder along the edges of those SMD resistors that are there. Also look at the regulator close to the SMD resistors. It almost appears to have a hole in the top where the smoke got let out.
