I had the day off work, so I figured i'd give this a shot while my son napped. Got the headlights off and stripped, preheat the oven and then...realize they won't fit. I'm back in school and in a rental with a tiny oven. Tried my wife's blow dryer, didn't feel like that was going to work very well. So now i'm going to try to the oven, just not closing the door completely and see if I can get it hot enough long enough.

UPDATE: I was going to place a piece of cardboard under the headlight when I realized the light was to big. Turned the oven off and went about trying the blow dryer. Decided to try the oven again so I turn it on and come start typing this post. Oh crap, forgot the cardboard was in there! I run in to the kitchen and oven the oven to see it filled with flames. Yikes. I got the fire out and now i'm trying to get the smoke out of the house.

Maybe the BHLM isnt for me. Almost a disaster of epic proportions.

Another Update: That worked well. The BHLM IS for me.

Yeah, needless to say I didn't finish within my sons nap time. They're finished now but I want to try to "restore" one of my lenses before I declare victory.

All I have to say is I wouldn't do flat black. Looks cheap imo

I would use the regular grey sealant for this. You don't want to have to take out and redo a couple weeks later.

Basically yes. BUT I heard a lot of people say that those cheap aftermarket ones leak and the lenses fade extremely quick. It's really not that hard and also kind of a fun project. I did both of mine on a Saturday.

Here's my completed set, turned out great in my opinion. Too me a whole two days to do with drying time tho.

Because there is such a thing as too much chrome.

Many people like the blacked out look. I have my headlights blacked out and black tail lights too.

After looking through this thread more closely..i take that back...there are no "blacked out headlights" just blacked out surrounds. I was referring to black out headlights where the lights lens in front of the bulbs were darkened so you can't see crap at night. My bad for jumping the gun.

Ah...But there are "blacked out" headlights. Some people put in projector lenses and paint even the stock reflector black. Do some more looking.

I can't understand what person would possibly think that outlining the limited in chrome would be a good idea.

Ok guys so I done effed up and I don't know how! I tried to be very meticulous about this. My paint is bubbling and I don't know why. Here's what I did:

I got everything pulled apart smoothly.

I then sanded the easy to get to areas with 400 grit, the rest I didn't bother with because so many people don't even sand at all.

I then blew them off with my air compressor.

Then I made sure I got all the remaining dust and any oils by wiping it down with denatured alcohol.

I let it dry for around 10 min and then I primered 1 coat with Rustoleum Plastic Primer.

I let that dry for about 16 hours (the primer was beautiful and smooth) and then I sprayed one light-ish coat of Rustoleum Semi-Gloss Protective Enamel in the spray booth with the fan on.

Almost immediately it started to crackle  I have no idea what I did wrong!! I tried sanding it down and tried again and it immediately started to peel again. WTF?! Does anyone have any ideas?? I really want my taco back I'm driving a jeep wrangler with chrome wheels :(

Yeah Man. I would have used the rustoleum plastic paint with the plastic primer..

I did a very quick sanding job on mine, no primer and used plasti dip. Maybe 3 coats, came out great, maybe you got a bogus can of paint Dakota?

Shit. On the back it said it works with most enamels but it sounds like I shouldn't have paired a metal paint with a plastic primer.
Hmm. I'm thinking of taking everything off and skipping the primer. Maybe I'll use Krylon fusion because everyone else seems to be happy with it.
