I've read where it could be the gaskets on top of the tank, but thought I'd ask for advice before taking it apart so I'd be prepared with new gaskets or other parts. I removed the shield to check it out.

Truck has 90,000KM, rust proofed since new, I filled it last week and was gone and the wife said it leaked out 1/2 a tank. No leak when on half a tank, it started leaking again once I got it up to almost 3/4 tank. I added 10 liters, no leak, added 5L more, parked with front end on ramps, it leaked after a bit.
With the rust proofing, it is hard to tell but the drips appear to be coming off the lines on top, since there is no drip off the bottom of the tank itself. If it were a hole in the tank, you would think it would leak out the hole (which would be below the fuel lines) and not drip off the lines?

Are there rubber lines up there? They may be rotted after 12 years?

Anyone got some nice clean pics of the tank and lines when out of the truck?
    Thanks,
    Don

Best guess is the same as your's. Check your fuel lines. If the tank was leaking, it wouldn't be getting the lines wet unless you hit some bumps driving it. Lay under the truck and have you wife start filling the tank with gas and see if you can see an actual gushing leak somewhere. If you can't tell with that, then drop the tank and actually take a look at the rubber and steel fuel lines.

Man that undercoating really sticks to everything. Its hard to make out anything down there with it applied.

Thanks, I guess I will be a grease monkey after this.

What pressure is in the fuel lines or in the tank would you say?

No idea. Never had to look that up. Maybe the FSM states it. It isn't much, obviously.

So its the tank, a pinhole in the side.Biggest PITA is draining the gas.

Anyone got a pic of the electrical connector that shows how to release it from the tank? Mine is completely jammed with rustproofing and dirt and its hard to see in there.

Any advice on tanks, what not to buy?

    Thanks,
    Don

I have a pic of the last connector, I got a pic, but can't gets my eyes in there. I assume the connector comes apart where the wires enter the plastic, but any advice so I don't break something will be appreciated.

The dealer list price on a tank is $890.00.

The body is actually perfect because of all that mess under there and every where. On the other hand, we have no snakes.

Still working on that electrical connection if you have any help.

I am not familiar with this particular connector. but that does appear to be where it comes apart. Study it and be firm but gentle to avoid breaking it. I hate the plastic connectors, as they get brittle with age.

I got it out, once the dirt was off and I got it down where I could see it.

The problem with the leak was the tank- one pinhole was pretty much behind where the bolt for the tank strap is. I had trouble seeing the pinhole due to the rubber "bumper" that covered it. There are 2 pieces of rubber on the top of the tank that act as a cushion or anti-rattle I suppose.

When I got the tank out, there was a second hole on top- you could stick your finger in it. I ended up getting a new tank.

The rust proofing was not traveling under that rubber bumper but moisture was able to get in there.

You may want to check the top of your tank. I think if you put a jack under there and loosen the strap, you can drop it low enough to check it out.

Man that is some nasty looking undercoating! I guess if it helps preserve your truck that is good. It would make any repair a lot more challenging. Glad you got it figured out.
