Disappointed With AFE Stage II not sealing to inner fender

So, I threw it on this evening:



I was happy until I noticed that it didn't seal around the opening in the inner fender. I didn't get pics, but it had a BIG gap between the rubber seal on the filter housing and inner fender opening.

I fixed it with a K&N hood seal from another intake kit. It fit the lip on the filter housing and was mucH thicker than the rubber that came with the AFE kit.

Even with the thicker rubber, I still had to pull it off the lip some to get it to seal against the truck. I tried loosening up the filter housing and adjusting first. That doesn't work. It sits where it sits. Nothing you can do there.

It's all sealed now, but $300... It should just work, no? After the fact, I searched and found others that had the same problem.

I'm happy with the sound. It goes great with the TRD Cat Back I put on last week. Now I'm saving for the supercharger...

Anyway, just a warning if you're in the market.

 

Damn...thought I was the only one with this issue...I feel the same way as you ....for the amount of money this bitch cost it should just fit perfect.....here is the real question....what are the drawbacks to the not so tight seal? (Besides us anal retentive guys just knowing it's not right).... I haven't fixed mine yet....your pics above are not showing up for me....what negatives exist by just leaving it as is?

 

Probably no negatives. We all know it's more of a sound mod. But, it should still seal the way it's supposed to!

 

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and see what they say....anyone else having this issue should post up on this thread....maybe I'll direct them to view the thread if we get enough responses...just a thought.

 

I didn't start the thread for a class action or anything. Just a warning, that's all.

 

Ha....not looking for a class action...just to inform them there could be an quality issue...if it were my company I would want to know about it.

 

True. It's hard to believe they don't know already though. Can't hurt to try calling. See what they can do for you.

That's crazy. It's an easy fix. If it's a problem with all of them, all they have to do is send a thicker seal.

I bet some don't even notice. It's hard to see behind the washer bottle. I noticed because my flashlight was pointing in there after I set it down. Shining right through...

 

That's what I'm hopping...we get enough responses and they send us a free fix!
