Looking at buying my wife a new Rav4 and I live in Texas but plan on buying in Louisiana. My question is do I pay the 4% sales tax in Louisiana or will I be charged the 6.25% of Texas? I know the title and registration will be Texas fees but that is a big difference in sales tax. I would think it would be the state it was purchased in(state sales tax), I mean when you buy a shirt or whatever out of state you pay their tax right! Any knowledge would be helpful! Thanks again Tacoma World.

Luckily we don't deal with all the smog stuff here and didn't forget about the registration. Just would like to save that 1k+$'s! Thanks for the input, gotta go check the papers on the other two we bought out of state.

I'm pretty sure you will be charged by Texas. I bought a car in Georgia one time and got charged 9.25% in Tennessee (where I live).

Yeah our local dealership only stocks three of anything! They know Dallas is 2 hours away and Shreveport is an hour away not too far for a couple thousand in savings. They tried to get me to pay sticker and hit her rav 3K low! I told them they have 5 minutes to get me a better deal and they came back excited with 250 off sticker and 500 more for my trade like they did something! I just walked out and reported them to Toyota home office.

I bought my truck in Nebraska when I was stationed there and paid about $1k in taxes on it in. I got sent to Korea and took my truck to my home of record state (Georgia) and when I went to register my it, they charged me sales tax again to the tune of $2k... Needless to say, I wasn't too happy with that and I will now keep Georgia plates on my truck as long as I own it so I don't end up paying sales tax a third time.

The yearly property tax is what hurts me. It doesn't pay to drive anything expensive. They all come do at Christmas time too.

No vehicle property taxes here.... We tend to get nailed on home-owner property taxes.

It's all the same, just in different forms!
