The deck looks great and the view is fantastic.

Are you concerned about "hungry bears" climbing up on the deck and eating you ? ...

PS ... Years ago, in Eastern Canada, I had a run-in with a bear and I will never forget it ..... (It was me vs Mr/Mrs.bear and all I had was a ... "can of compressed air - loud boat horn" that scared it away.

What a PITA! Don't know why the threaded connection on the top leaked but had to cut it out for the 2nd time. Maybe horsed in on too tight the first time.

Is that steel wool shoved in the hole where the copper comes through the concrete ?

I may be building an L shaped yellow cedar countertop soon , any advice on the corner ? I am considering a herringbone arrangement but I'm a little worried about seasonal movement

Herring bone should work. Id check its movent numbers on http://www.woodbin.com/calcs/shrinkulator.htm
To see how much it moves.

I'd also run some sort of spline down the joint. And make sure the top has the room to move.

The maple top above is going between a wall and bookcase and I'm slotting the drywall so it has room to move. With the supports being slotted so it stays attached. Make sure when you seal and stain you do top and bottom as well. Large wood countertops are always a challenge. They work great as islands but can really present some issues in a standard kitchen. I'm doing the maple because I bought solid surface for the kitchen before I added this set of cabinets and didn't want to buy another sheet. Its also not a work or prep surface.

I was thinking about biscuits to join all the boards , I would use some in the end grain portions of the herringbone as well

I can allow an expansion gap between the top and the walls by way of the thickness of the tile backsplash , just using a caulking joint between the backsplash and the top
