I tried RainX once and it left a film I could notice at night. Maybes it wasnt applied correctly.

Back in the eighties (and probably 100 years before that) we could still buy Bull Durham smoking tobacco in little cloth draw string sacks. We rubbed the sack on the windshield and it prevented fogging. I don't remember it leaving a noticable film. All the old timers had a sack in their vehicles. Maybe it was the tobacco and maybe it was something about the sack. Maybe the windshield had to be moist. <shrug>. Buy a bag of cheap roll your own tobacco and tie a small handful of it in a very thin piece of cotton cloth. Worth a try.

Edit - if you use vanilla pipe tobacco that would make a great air freshener too. At least to this old redneck nose. :)

We seem to have solved the problem for now with damprid! The cabin air filter was almost perfect and it has over 8000 miles and about 8 months on it.

Problem is it hasn't been made in 25 or 30 years. Tomorrow I just may "roll my own" anti-fog sack :)

Had this problem again a few days ago. I think a seal is messed up on the car. Still has the dealership warranty, so maybe we can make them do something.

Headed to Gainesville this morning and after we're headed down the road for maybe 5 minutes we have to pull over because it fogged up so bad. So we get that to go away, get on the highway in the sun light and it goes completely away, but once we get to the shaded part of the highway, this happens: b2eea534e0e66ce00b21bdf3b4edaf7f_d7e4047c65423cf0da1ef5b9d607bcc4f08d1984.jpg

New Navigation DVD/CD/TV/AV/Bluetooth Stereo and seat mod spacers, 1" hubcentric spacers, seat heaters....
EVERY Volkswagon I had leaked like a sieve around the inside fender well (radio antenna grommet, right above the fuse box and main wire looms) and the front windshield....I would be looking for leaks FIRST, then move on...I actually caught a Sirocco on fire due to water leakage (interior fire, had to replace dash and every friggin wire in car), did it myself, took three months to trace and replace, and the fire retardant was a biatch to clean up....it was a pain, so many different looms back when this happened...

Damn Germans build a fairly good automobile, but they suck on keeping the water out...

Gotcha. She has a window that makes a squelling sound every now and then, so I may start there. Thanks for pointing me towards that though, I'll definitely check those areas.

Okay. So we have taken the car to the dealership several times and even left it for two weeks to see if they could fix the issue, they claim they could never replicate the issue in those 2 weeks, but my girlfriend had it happen to her in 2 days. So she called Volkswagen customer care, and they basically told her that if the dealership couldn't do anything then neither could they. So I'm on the phone and calling around now. Anyone have any suggestions as to what to do from here?

Make sure heater controls are NOT set to recirc. A/C on with heat control set to warm does help too. May also be a bad door/window seal that's allowing moisture in somewhere. Look for soggy carpet, in trunk too. Good luck

It is not at all uncommon for VW heater cores to leak and putting on the defrost will only make it worse. If the fog does not wipe off easily it maybe antifreeze.

The dealership said the tore the carpets and seats out and checked everything from front to back and couldn't find an issue. I think it's a door seal as well. I'll upload a picture from my phone in a minute and show you why.
