I'll only trade up if it's got a diesel.

There, now we can move on.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
I think 2016 Tacoma will be pretty much Hilux rebadged. Toyota has been expanding US production but shrinking other factories. It no longer makes any sense to produce Hilux and almost the same Tacoma. One will have to go to save money on Models. Since 2015 Hilux was released and New Tacoma is not Most likely next year we will get smaller Hilux, so those that like Tacoma size will have to settle either for smaller Hilux (the size of Colorado) or go Tundra.
As it stands Tacoma is eating into Tundra sales. So I am guessing Toyota wants to reshuffle this.

I personally am looking forward to the 2016. I've held off buying the 2nd gen as my 1st gen has treated me extremely well but will need to be replaced in the next couple of yrs.

I don't see Toyota making the 3rd gen truck any smaller than the current truck and I don't see them bringing that rounded soft shape of the hilux to the U.S. Market. It looks way too soft and bubbly for our market. Same reason I feel the Colorado is going to be a flop.

The New Tacoma needs hard lines and the same in your face attitude of 2nd gen. A diesel option would be nice for those that want one but with gas prices at 10 yr lows and diesel still hovering around $3.89 a gallon I don't see it as being a financialy sound purchase or being a big seller.

I would be perfectly happy with a revised 4.0 V6 or maybe a smaller 2.5-3.0 V6 turbo motor but that will never happen. I think a 300 hp Tacoma would be fun.

    I'm hoping for a 2015 4runner-like frontend and interior.

I don't expect any drastic changes like diesel engines, 9 speed transmissions etc.

What Toyota does to keep reliability up is to keep with the known and not bet the farm on the unknown (e.g. 9 speed transmissions etc.) Look on how their latest refreshes/remodels went with the Corolla and Camry. A change but not a huge change.

I would expect the same from the Tacoma. Fuel economy, features on par with the Colorado with probably more rear seat room for the crew cab, some more soft touch material and technology. I just hope they don't F' up the exterior looks like the front of the new 4 Runner.....

I ordered a new 2015 Tacoma Limited 4x4 a month ago today. It is expected to arrive around Christmas or early next year. After hearing of the new revised 2016, am seriously tempted to cancel the order and wait for the first 2016 from the dealership.

At age 72, this may be my last new vehicle, so somewhat of a dilemma. My only complaint on the 2nd generation Tacoma is a little too small interior, at least in my opinion. I'm thinking the 2016 may be larger, closer to my former T100.

    All opinions appreciated.

The size seems just right for me with a 3 and 5 year old riding along. I may opt for a bigger truck when the kids get bigger. What is too small about the interior? And I believe the current gen is pretty similar in size to the old T100's.

Agreed. You think our interior is small? Take a look at the back seat of a Frontier!
