Thanks for all the positive compliments. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Probably going to put my rear hatch back on tomorrow. Had to stop & watch the LLWC today. Tim A was a big help as I used his setup as a reference for mine. Thanks Tim!

did you find the rails on craigslist as well or did you buy them new? I have been looking for the cheapest place to get the rails and hardware. Install looks great, I will be doing mine at some point in time. Just need to score a deal on craigslist for the towers/bars. I am going with Yakima as well since I already got some bike racks.

I bought the tracks new from a local company that had them in stock. Part # is 8001135 60" tracks w/hardware. They were pretty expensive...$107/pair. I liked this better then making them stationary. The rack itself was a slap together set from ebay/craigslist/local company. Same pt #'s somebody had put together earlier in this post. I was going to do a Thule system, but got an awesome deal on the yakima stuff.

Awesome job! I may have to do it myself now too, if I can find some used components.

So the control tower landing pad needs to be #1, but what about the older (re: cheaper) rail riders? Still Number one? Appreciate any help. Thanks!

CCM, not quite sure which part you are asking about, been awhile since I messed with it.

Thinking about doing this on my shell. Would anyone who has done this be willing to share some more info/photos about the actual install?

Does anyone have the Thule feet and pod part numbers? I ordered what i thought was right ones off of Amazon and ended up sending them back because they didn't fit. I have an existing Thule crossbars, square tube style and other accessories. Mounting to a Leer shell with Thule tracks preinstalled.

Looks great. Nice paint job and install. I am looking at a new truck and considering getting the tracks installed on a ARE shell from the factory.

Here are a couple shots of my ARE cap on my F250 and the factory installed Thule rails. I got new cross bars for this truck (78" vs 48") because it could take them.

In the second photo, there is about 350lbs of not at all aerodynamic kayak up there.

CCM, for the rail riders you'll need to buy the Thule tracks. I did the same, as Yakima no longer sells those rails - they were the exact same product as Thule. Now the Yakima tracks are different and wont work with your rail riders.
