That's close enough, the added resistance will cause a little more wattage pull but the resistor itself can radiate better than the SMD's do so I bet you will be OK.

Just fixed this issue, today. Took a little longer than expected because I accidentally melted one of the 510s off the board as I was adding solder to the other. Eventually got it back on. Its fugly but it's working! Thanks for the info!

Which size resistors do I need to replace the 510 resistors? One of two melted on my overhead compass/temp gauge

Mine went out 3 days after I bought my truck. My dad and I soldered the 510's back and tested but it still didn't work. I thought 'Oh well, it's already broken so no big deal'. Plugged everything back up and realized my dumbass never pushed the button. Turned it on and it worked! Thanks for the great write up.

Quick question for you guys, mine is out but if I hold the button it will come back on for a little bit and then the screen will go black again. Think the fix will work for me?

More than likely, Yes. When you hold the button you are flexing the PCB the resistors or on. That makes them contact the solder pad and it works then. Do the fix.

Ok I only have a large solder tip and I burnt the front side of the board a little bit.. I plugged it in and it works again, but the 510 gets a little hot if I hold my finger on it. Should I worry or just put everything back together?

Eventually it may fail again. It's happened to several people. The resistors get very hot. When I was testing mine, I was putting pressure on one of the resistors with a retractable pen. The heat was enough to melt the pen.

Last weekend we bought our son a 06 & the compass/temp wasnt working. Today I took it apart & sure enough 510 was about standing straight up. I pushed it back down to tested it & it worked so I soldered it & all is good now thanks to this write up.

Getting ready to sell the 2008 Taco and overhead compass wasn't working. Saved me big money! I know this is an old thread so here are a couple of up close pics of the broken resistor in case you are looking for them!

Pulled the console off checked both 510 resistors. Cracked at the solder joint. Hit it with more solder. Re-Installed everything and BAMM, works like brand NEW. Check youtube for helpful videos if necessary.
