I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and I'm looking to put a 6 inch lift and 34 inch tires on in about six months. Can anyone give advice or point me in the direction of a technical thread that talks about upgraded brakes for oversized tires. I've heard that The OEM brakes are not really designed to handle oversized tires so I'm looking for an upgrade option. Not looking to replace the calipers. Just an upgraded rotor and brake pad.

I've been checking reviews for about a month and most everything is hit and miss. About 50% good and 50% bad. I'm sure a lot of people on this forum have experience with this so any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Update - I decided to go with the Power Stop Truck & Tow brake kit. It has great reviews and it only ran me $170 for everything. I'll post an update once I get em installed and tested out...:D

Sorry for the delay in response.. Didn't actually end up installing the kit until 2 days ago. The brakes looked fine when I pulled them apart a month back so I decided to leave them on. After about a month, the wheel shake got a bit worse so I decided to install the kit.

First Impression: The brakes work! That's always a good thing right lol. Break in went great. Very straight forward on their website. They seem to be pretty strong. Defiantly feel as good as stock did. I haven't really slammed on them too hard since the break in but I'll give them a test on the way to work today. Will post my findings later tonight.

Well I'm on 37s. With all tools on board and lots of armor. I'm on factory brakes. I get by just dandy.

Definitely looking at this option. Keep us posted on your experience. My breaks felt so different after the lift, new wheels and tires I immediately brought it back thinking that there was air in the lines. Come to find out they didn't even have to crack the lines. I have gotten used to them now but damn there is such a big difference from factory.

So its been a couple weeks on the brakes. They're great so far. Great stopping power. I haven't had to slam on them for any reason yet so I dont have a real-world report on that but the simulated quick stops are pretty impressive. They perform as good as OEM for sure, which is saying a lot because the production brake rotor and pad set is pretty awesome! (I've gotten 60,000 out of them both times I've changed the brakes prior to now). Brake dust is low also :D

More report's to come. I wish I could fast-forward to next summer when the 6" lift and 34's get thrown on for a real test haha!!

I upgraded my 1st gen tacoma & 3rd gen 4runner with tundra brakes. It's a direct bolt on. Made a big difference.

Will the tundra setup swap right into a 2nd gen, provided rims will clear it?

Wow! Very cool. The visual comparison is impressive!! Did you have to change wheels after the swap?

The stock 2004 16" trd wheels cleared the calibers just fine. I did have to trim the backing plates a little where the caliber mounts. pictured is the larger 231mm tundra calibers. On my 2000 4runner i installed the 199mm tundra calibers, also a direct bolt on. I tow a small camper and sometimes atv's on a trailer so that's why i upgraded.
