Heard some minor squeaks under the hood and had a look at the serpentine belt. (2007 V6) It was on its last legs so I got a new one. Easy to install with minimal swearing involved.

When I was switching it out I noticed something odd about the lowest idler wheel. So I took it out to have a closer look. See the photos.

Is it completely fucked? The idler wheel in questions is NO.1 from the diagram.

    Thanks TW!

Is that the bearing with the bolt attached to it minus the actual pulley for the idler pulley?

That is what was there. Nothing else between that and the belt.

That's what I thought. Balls. Well at least it is an easy fix, part is on order along with another new belt.

    Thanks TW

Honestly I'd probably go ahead and replace the others while you're in there; whatever caused that issue is probably at work on the others too.

Yup completely fucked. Can't really believe it lasted more than a few minutes after the idler disintegrated but I probably drove 100miles like this before swapping it out.

Wow. You're lucky that didn't damage anything else when it fell off. Check your skid plate and see if it's laying around down there.

I know! I did a through check and blasted all the nooks and tight spots with an air compressor but I didn't find a thing.
