it's my first tacoma so i'm sorry if these are dumb questions.
I recently purchased a 2007 tacoma. figured there was a lift on it after seeing others identical to mine which were much lower.
i looked at the wheel well today and saw that a plastic piece was cut off. I have read several times on TW that people cut this when they put bigger wheels.
How can i know figure out what size wheels i can put on. i think the biggest when stock is 265/75r16, but with this piece cut, and lift, worth going bigger?

I would try to figure out just how much lift you have first. Do some measuring, and report back!

^ This. If you're not sure how much tire it'll take, you could always go to a tire shop and ask them. I bet they'd be happy to help.

But if we know how much lift there is on there, then we will be able to give you a pretty good estimate on how big you can go :)

Hm, seems like you have a 3" suspension lift. I thought maybe it was a level kit with blocks. Any pics you can take of those parts?

Here were/are my before and after numbers:

    Before
    FD: 20.5"
    FP: 20.75"
    RD: 20.5"
    RP: 21"

    After
    FD: 23.5
    FP: 24
    RD: 23.5 (25)
    RP:24 (25)

I'd say a 285/70/17 would look pretty good

I have 285/75/16s. Was torn between 265 and 285. Glad I went with the 285s..

    They look better

This is all great info, you can do 285's as stated. Might need to look in to upper control arms with that much in the front if it doesn't already have them. Also you'll need to look out for rubbing on your uca's with stock rims and possible rubbing on your cab mounts! Aaanndd on and on and on... Lol

Yeeeah... Regret my 265's. But at the time I didn't have a lift so I don't think the 285's would have fit. Still don't have a lift, thinking of changing that soon.

16in rims isn't specific enough to know if you'll rub on the UCA or spindle, we'll need to know the wheel's backspacing and offset. Or at the very least the model of the wheel so we can look it up.

If i want to keep stock rims (16") for now and just get new tires, what would be the biggest i could go without having to change anything?
I do a lot of city and highway driving so i dont want something that will kill my gas but i do some trails/off road quite a bit also and want somethign that will look good because right now i find it looks ridiculous with such small tires.
