2010 MX-5 Cup Series race at Road America. Third place car (#13) attempted to draft past the second place car (#30) going into turn 5 at 140mph. Side draft sucked the two cars into each other. The #30 car hit the right hand k-barrier more or less head on and created a leading edge that the #13 car hit. Both cars were destroyed, but nobody was hurt and both drivers competed a week later at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The TV from the #30 car doesn't show anything and the recording unit in the #13 car was more or less vaporized.

This was a few years back,
I got bumped from behind by a teen trying to squeeze past me at a rotary.
I had just let off the brake, so I hit the car in front of me.

After all was said and done, I got new Taillights, chrome bumpers, grille and corner lights.

My thoughts as well. Since you didn't mention any injuries, I assume your father and sister were not seriously injured in the accident. Why damn another driver who may not had anyone to drive him to his chemo tx, and was exhasted/sick/weak from his tx. Just saying.

This thread is depressing as hell. Sadly I don't think our first gens hold up as good in crashes as second gens, at least not safety wise. The newer ones are much safer by a long shot.

First, my 2000. Teenager texting crossed the center line while my wife was driving it. Each car probably going ~30-35 at time of impact. Airbags fired, which totaled the truck. She braced for the impact and said the airbags didn't even touch her face, but they did break the windshield. So they're basically worse than useless.

Next up is the 1996 that I replaced it with. Slid off the road on some black ice - no damage. Before I could pull it back on the road, another driver came along, ignored me trying to flag them down, slid on the same ice, and crashed into my truck. She was probably going 45 mph when she hit it. It was totaled, but I bought it back and still drive it.

Even with all of that damage and the front driver wheel barely hanging on and pointing the wrong way, I drove it out of the ditch and about 100 yards down the road to make it easier to load it on the wrecker.

It's not perfect, but she's been back on the road for 10 months now. I have a really good junkyard around here, and a miracle worker body shop buddy who welded in a cutout from the rocker panel of another truck. One day maybe I'll spring for a new grille.
