It does not in fact have a TPMS in it and it is noted as such in the manual as not having one. Maybe other years or models but not mine..

I'm really failing to understand why on earth this would upset anybody. What tiny bit you lose in tire life, from only rotating 4 tires instead of 5, is saved when you only buy 4 replacement tires instead of 5.

Well, You shouldnt worry about it. When you go to buy tires, like John said, it will save you 20%. :) The spare is still a full functioning tire, and will get ya out of a jam, if called uppon to do so.

not to many, love it the way it is
To the OP... when it comes time to change your current tires, just buy three more new tires of the same current tire model and add the spare tire into the new tire mix, thereby saving you the cost of one whole new tire. Add one of the old tires that is being changed onto your spare rim and wa-la, a spare tire that is old and worn and it won't matter as long as it holds air. this will only work if your current new spare tire does not dry rot over time from sitting under your truck...

Did the sticker on the truck list 4 or 5 fullsize wheels? When they put on different wheels other than stock, the sticker will list if it is a 4 wheel or 5 wheel upgrade. My 2003 Tacoma had a 5 wheel BBS upgrade package. My 05 only has the 4 wheel upgrade package.

Just wait till he lowers the spare and sees the wear marks on the side from the brackets holding it under the truck .

There was a thread about that somewhere a long time ago.....

by putting the spare on the truck during rotation, would that not make one tire have more tread then the rest, for like 4 years until the others all get a chance to be the spare and not get worn?

seems silly to me, just keep it as a spare and dont worry about it is what I say, the truck only needs 4 tires, you got 4 matching ones on the truck.... your good :)

Bringing up an old thread here.

Unlike the "doughnut" tires which are stamped temporary. The spare on our trucks come with a full size tire but the rim is labeled as temporary.

I asked when I got my new tires (not at a dealership) why that would be. He stated it is probably a mating surface for the lug nut.

Our stock alloy rims use a flat surface, the spare is conical. Makes sense why they would label it temporary.

So I see a few options.

1)Source a new/used rim to match your current rims.

2)Find 6 lug nuts to match the conical shaped spare rim and put them in the glove box.

3)Or leave it alone since it is a spare.

I don't care for option 3, if on a long road trip (cross-country) I don't want to be constantly worrying/checking my lug nuts.

    Alan
