You need instrumentation. I use Ultra Gage and have my coolant temps on page one right under my instant mileage. You can get a 2nd windshield wiper spray resavoir and put water in it. Wire it into the cabin somehow. There are a few hardcore guys that have done this, although I just increase/decrease my blocking depending on the weather. If you find yourself overblocked in traffic you can crank the heater up and you will be fine till you can adjust your blocking. I ran all summer without a fan and 80% blocked without any issues. Just keep an eye on your temps or else you can overheat.

I have one too. I'll monitor the temps once I ever get to blocking. Is there anything the ultra gauge can't monitor? I want to install under panels but don't know what to monitor down there to see if its getting enough air.

Greg, could you help me out? Looking at that chart seems to show that the red line is performing better, and better sooner than the blue line. Am I reading this wrong? Your statement about the torque peak sounds correct, and the blue line does reach that 650 RPMs sooner, but the red line is still showing higher. Is that red line stock or an arbitrary run of something else?

I was just wondering, about how much does the drop in filter actually help the performance and gas milage? If anyone could help me out it would be great, considering it is fairly expensive for me. Thanks

Studies under controlled conditions conclude zero improvement.

I get 30+ mpg and still us oem filter with secondary filter intact. Current filter has 45K on it.

Vouch. I use the same OEM and have lifetime 29+mpg with my 4x4 v6. This includes about 10% miles with a utility trailer.

As the title suggest why not just replace your stack air filter and other easy to replace components before you go to an inspection? Yes it may take a little time out of your day but why not?

Why remove the stock air filter in the first place is the real question ;)

I have an 03 double cab with the 3.4L and I got 21.7mpg? The only thing it has is 265/75R16 highway tires and an exhaust leak at the gasket on the header and a pin hole before the catalytic converter...? Is this unheard of or pretty normal?

Pretty normal depending on your driving speed and length of commute. Short commute, low mpg, long commute at 55-60 easy to get 22 mpg.

I was doing 70-75mph back with the cruise control on for 97miles. Still common or unheard of?
