I've wanted the OEM roof rack for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger. If anyone hasn't seen this link jump on it quick, last day for free shipping.

Anyway, my thought is once I have it installed is to get the 2x4 Defender rack.

I really don't like the big bulky racks, but not sure if it will look silly not taking up the whole roof. I do want a little roof space to retain my mag mount Wilson antenna. The antenna would sit closer to the back of the roof in the unused space. My other concern is how to go about mounting it. I would like to keep the cross bars out and mount it to the actual plastic rack, but not sure if that's possible. The reason being is to keep the rack low profile. Second option would be to fold the rack closed and mount the basket that way which I'm sure would work. After that, I would eventually like to mount lights and maybe build a fairing for it. Give me input! :D

The info with the rack says 75# capacity - is that all she's good for? Maybe there are others that aren't plastic........

Yeah, that's one of my concerns. That's the load rating for the bars. If I laid it down on the piece that actually attatches to the roof I believe It would carry a lot more. Anyone have a roof rack that can see if it is possible to mount there?

Seems like a good deal especially with the shipping. I'm afraid to drill into my roof though, its the only thing holding me back.

The factory rack mounts without drilling.

Old thread but I'll chime in since I don't see many others using the 4x2 Defender rack:

It's compact for sure. I wanted something as a ledge for more stowage in my bed. Wanted to keep it out of the air too. I think a 4x2 might look a little odd on the roof of a double cab.
