    Hey all,

My username isn't quite accurate, just yet. I have plans on buying a new Tacoma and I have a deal set and will get it in a week or so. I just wanted some input from you guys on the pricing of a new Tacoma.

2015 4x4 DCSB with the Off Road Package (Automatic)
    Factory Tow Package
    T3 Package
Entune Audio Plus (heard lots of bad news about this already)

I was quoted $35,400 to include tax, title, license, etc. California tax is a bit heavy too. I was just wondering if it's in a good ballpark of a price for one.

Thanks and looking forward to learning A LOT from being here. I've read all of the threads on the "Official How Much Did You Buy..." but found numerous vehicles with other options.

    You might try:

    https://www.truecar.com/

As they give a history of recent sales so you can estimate how much under MSRP you should be expecting. In some cases you may already have free access to this service (like through a credit union or something like USAA).

Hopefully you'll quickly get some first hand answers here, but just in case TrueCar might be better than nothing...

P.S. *Where* in CA are you buying this? It is a big state with different dealer mark-ups in different parts...

You can also look at Consumerreports.org its $15, it tells you a lot about the vehicle and what others have recently paid in your area. I just bought a 2015 on Dec 19th, but in NH. I paid $31,4XX OTD.
2015 TRD O/R with the black side steps I didnt even want lol. will be selling them once I get some sliders

I might be able to look up a similar report from USAA. I will log in and check it out. whats your zip in case I can look up a new area?

This did not copy and paste well, the service give you 3 dealers prices within 60 miles
I ended up going to a dealer closer and using these to negotiate my pricing

I ran TrueCar for you with closer specs to what you are looking at for the Los Angeles area:

2015 4x4 TRD Off Road, V6 automatic, tow package, T3 package, Audio+ comes out with a TrueCar estimate of 32,1xx including destination but not tax and registration. That is about $22xx below MSRP.

You can do the rest of the math yourself, but given CA sales tax rates and registration it looks like your offer is pretty close to that ballpark.

Alright. Yeah, I've searched and searched and $35,400 was the best I can get in the area. There was a quote somewhere on the other site saying just because you read somewhere someone bought one for ~32,000 flat, doesn't mean it's true haha (sometimes). :p

    I appreciate the input. :)

I was told you pretty much can NOT get a TRD O/R without O/R Tow package, Etune plus, and T3

which you would think they would include the auto dim mirror but NooOOoo they want $800 for it lol. At least they are available on here, just a matter of time before I upgrade it

Nothing against you getting a good deal, but I doubt the dealership sold it to you at their cost(invoice)

That usually means they received a better deal from Toyota for buying them in bulk, thus getting a better price and having more room for negotiations. so selling a truck they paid $25,000 for, for $29,000 (invoice) still nets 4k profit before someone goes in and buys extra crap from the dealership thats overpriced from the F/I guy

Dealerships are not going to sell a truck if they don't make money on it. Its not like they are making a killing with their service department, people avoid them like the plague unless its warranty work or free oil changes

I think the dealership thought they were going to get my money from the financing side of the deal. TFS was charging me 6.7% apr but a month later I refinanced with BECU at 2.7%. I think I got a pretty good deal on my 2014 Baja TX

I really don't want to retype the entire process out everytime a new thread pops up... you can search posts where I outline what is generally the easiest way that happens to net you the best price too... should be easy to find. Basically find out their cost (easy to do, Edmunds.com, generally very accurate), call the dealerships that have the model you want, ask for fleet manager, get their price, ask to send you a copy of the invoice - call around until you find one that will knock off some of the b.s. invoice adds that they get back from Toyota - (example their marketing fund amount at the bottom of the invoice) - decide how much over you're willing to pay... well, there I just went and did it. I did it for one member on this list, it took me 5 dealerships (so 5 phone calls) to find one that knocked off the b.s. charges (the other dealerships wouldn't and swore no one else would) - got it a few hundred over those netted off... amazing deal. Of course, this only works if you live near enough dealers - if there's one dealer within hundreds of miles it won't work as well.

so what i'm saying is negotiate UP from their cost, never down from msrp - and never talk to a salesperson... worst thing you can do. and in reality, if you're dealing with the fleet department - it's really not a negotiation, they're just telling you how much over invoice you're paying, take it or leave it.

there's also quota's - when they hit specific targets they get bonus amounts. if you're lucky, and I mean very lucky and time your deal such that if they sell one more car and by the end of that day they get a huge bump in a quota you could conceivably get a dealer to mark it down by thousands... my buddy owns a lot of dealerships - there's times they've sold a car $10K below their cost because that one sale got them an additional $70K in bonuses.

Check the COSTCO price. Way below what TRU Car says people are buying them for.
