NYC Highline

    The Highline is an old elevated freight rail line on the West Side of Manhattan. The remnants run from the meatpacking district to 34th St. The line runs through several buildings and has long been a collector of trash, broken bottles, and graffiti.

    Rather than tear it down, some genius decided to rally funding for a complete makeover into the MOST interesting, thoughtful, innovative public space in the US...no shit.

    Pics aren't great as the camera's a compact and the day was a bit overcast yesterday, but you get the idea.

    The "park" was JAMMED with people. You can feel the vibe that folks are excited by it.

    The amazing thing is how the designers remade the space but kept the feel of old, abandoned railway tracks while making it one of the coolest places in NYC.

    If you get the chance, you definitely should check it out...

    Wind's predicted to be b/t 11-16 out of the West which makes it a following wind/sea for me. Boat's a bit of a tank, so shouldn't be a problem and helm is fully enclosed so doesn't really matter.

    Only suggestion re: Highline is NOT going on a weekend at 3 pm! WAY too many peeps...

    Wanted to take more pics of the design details, but pretty much people everywhere. Not an understatement to say it's the most interesting use of what was an industrial relic.

    Pretty small chance for it to revert back, but if it does might also be interesting in the process...
