When I had my 255/85s installed they inflated them to 40, which I immediately noticed was too high. The edges of the tires were not contacting the ground as made evident by the little nubs not wearing away like the ones in the center of the tread. I have since dropped them to 30 (tried 35). They seem like they are still not contacting evenly, so I may drop them a little further.

These are installed on a 7.5" wide wheel. Wheel width will definitely be a factor.

    Hey dudes,

I have a 12' tx pro DCSB. Looking for a taller than stock tire, and skinny. Can a 255/85/16 go on without a lift and without rubbing? Will I need to trim? I looked for my answer but after 15 pages I thought it best to just ask. Don't kill me!

That drop in MPG could have something to do with winter blend fuel and the cold temps if you got the 22mpg at different time of year. I'm struggling to get 18 right now on the highway running 70. I was almost at 20 this summer with 265/70/17 load C duratracs. 21.5 + mpg on the highway during the summer with stock tires.

I did notice some lateral sliding but nothing that any of my previous tires didn't do in the same spot/situation.

So folks got I have a question. Ive been looking at the cooper st maxx in the 255/85r16. I find it odd that the 255 comes in at 32.8 and the 285/75r16 are 33.1 according to treaddepot.com and many other sites. Is this just miss information through cooper or are these 255s just that much smaller than most other 255s? I see most 255s around 33.1~33.4 and most 285s around 32.6~32.9. Why are these two different?

    Trip report:

255/80-17 KM2s siped and aired down to 15psi.
Ran FS27 (Rat Trap Pass @ 3200') outside of Oso/Darrington.
Snow line was at approx. 2700' and crunchy on top but soft and somewhat compacted underneath.
Some places were ±2' deep if you got off track.
Some lateral sliding but it was predictable.

I was not the path breaker but I was 4th in a line of 20 trucks.
Tires seemed to grip better in unbroken crust of snow.

I have yet to test grip in fresh powder but look forward to !!!

Well I haven't done the chalk test yet, but I'm also running e rated tires which my old 265's were and 35ish psi worked for that as well. Probably will need to up the psi when the winch goes in.

Maybe this has been asked before... I have an OME Kit giving me ~3", stock 16" steelies (16x7, +15mm OS, 4.35" BS) and 255/85Cooper ST Maxx. Running the current setup with no rubbing after removing front flaps. Looking to widen my stance a little with 1.25" Spydertrax? Can I run these without carnage when flexing? If no, what will I have to cut?

Anyone have any pics of a similar setup handy? Links, if already covered?

Cant say for sure, but the worst case is your going to contact the fender. Since this size of tire tucks into the wheel well so nice with stock spacing. However, I have 1st gen rims that stick out a quarter inch (I think) more than the 2nd gen rims, and I don't have any issues with normal driving. Cant say under flex lock to lock, as I have the sway bar on, and really stiff coils, plus haven't been out :(.

his rims have about the same backspacing as the first gen rims. you will most likely rub at stuff on the fender as well as full lock rubbing on the plastic inner fender.
