Only shitty part about radiant heat is you need to build your garage with it, no ability to retrofit an existing garage.

It is pretty sweet, especially when your ass is sitting on the floor working in your truck.

One shitty part about radiant heat is that it takes a while to warm up a large room... So if you have your garage door open for a while it's going to be cold and take a few hours to warm back up

So I know it's been discussed in here before when it comes to securing your vehicle before you work on it, but it's a hard lesson to learn if you experience it first hand. It's also important to secure your vehicle before you unload anything or are parking in general. Seems like common sense but with how comfortable you get doing certain things, you need to remember shit can hit the fan real quick.

Sadly it was the lesson my Dad learned the night before last that left him with 4 broken ribs, a punctured lung, and a puncture in his leg from a stick. He was parking the truck to unload rocks and stuff from the rear when he slid over the edge of the embankment in front of my parents house and went over the edge. The truck flipped backwards lengthwise and was stopped between a couple trees. He was partially ejected from the truck and pinned underneath it. He was out there for about 45 minutes before my Mom realized he should have been inside by then and went out looking for him. Considering the photos and what had happened he is lucky to be alive.

He has never been a dramatic person but when I saw him at the hospital he told me straight up he thought this was it. A tough thing to hear from your Father. I am just thankful he is home resting now.

    So remember: Secure your shit!

 Holy crap! I clicked in here because of the home page thumbnail...was curious, thought somebody wrecked on a trail or something.

Glad your dad will be OK and it wasn't more serious. No one ever thinks they'll get hurt in their own backyard. Wishing for a speedy recovery for dad!

Very true, my brother in law originally had a regular hot water heaterhooked up to it and it couldn't produce enought hot water to heat the garage. So he had to pull the hot water heater out and now runs an on demand hot water heater that gets the job done but seems like it runs all the time.

Glad to hear he is ok, just hope for a quick recovery.

Yea natural gas. The first one worked well for about a week. Would keep it comfortable out there. Definitely need to insulate the ceiling better and insulate the wall between the attic and the garage rafters.

    Mike,
I'm thankful for you and your family that your father survived what appears to be a very harrowing experience.
I'm guessing that those 45 minutes seemed like forever.
I cannot imagine what it would be like to suddenly find myself upside down and pinned under a truck when only a few seconds before I was upright just a few feet from my home.
Godspeed in the healing department, and thanks for sharing this with us.

Thank you murph I really appreciate it.

My dad was telling me the story about it and said at first he did panic and started screaming uncontrollably and everything and then he calmed down and started counting every 15-30 seconds to save energy and his voice. I really could appreciate him keeping it cool in a really shitty situation. Crazy part was he had his phone on him too, just couldn't move his arms to get to it.

Wow! Thank God he's going to be ok. That's amazing that he was able to think logically and keep somewhat calm to conserve himself.
