So last night I watched a VERY interesting show on Public TV called "Alone in the Wilderness".... If you are a fan of Survivorman or Man vs Wild or generally interested in survival, nature, hunting, or fishing - you'll like it.

Anyway, this guy Dick Proenneke retired and went to live in Alaska at Twin Lakes off Cook Inlet. Dude lived off the land for 30 years... built his own cabin, fireplace, cut his own firewood, hunted, fished, etc. AND he kept a journal...

Goes to show you what a little ingenuity and will can do for you.

    Here are some links:

That's a great show. I try to watch it whenever they run it - that dude had some amazing skills. Getting completely away from people sounds really good to me sometimes, but I think I'd have my full dose of solitude in a couple of weeks...

I have watched it at least twice all the way through. What a great story...I love the narrators voice. It might be Dick's voice, but either way it is told like a story. Really recommend watching.

Agent we watched that in high school. That guy is pretty remarkable.

Into the wilderness was about a fucking idiot who thought he could live in the alaskan wilderness. He deserved what he got.

And John Krackhaur has to be the worse author I have ever read. The only reason he is famous is the fascinating true stories he writes about, and destroys in doing so.
