4 Bangin, Fuel Sippin, Full Tank Challenge!

I agree, the easy solution is to find projects or errands that create the need to drive long enough for both the engine and oil to reach normal operating temperatures. That doesn't mean you have to drive far, but the engine needs to keep running for at least 20 minutes, preferably driving... high or low speeds doesn't really matter in this situation.

So remind me, how are things getting tougher for you?

 

488.8 miles on 18.25 gallons,, 26.7 mpg

 

Finally did that fill up. Didn''t make 21 MPG. 405.7 miles - 20.00 gallons = 20.2 MPG. It was all 3.5 mile trips back and forth to work except for 65 miles of urban interstate. But it was VERY windy that day.

On another note, when I did the above fillup I reset the UltraGauge's trip meter for the year. On Xmas day and today I did 400 miles of mostly high speed interstate, in again VERY windy conditions, between 70-75 MPH. When I parked it, the Ultragauge read 23.7 MPG, verified by odometer reading and the fuel level reading on the UltraGauge.

On the first leg of the trip on Xmas day I did 120 miles with a 25 MPH sustained side wind with gusts the trip gauge read 21.5 MPG. When I changed direction and the side, wind became a direct headwind, at urban interstate speeds, which around here are slower. By the time I got to my destination 45 miles away the average mileage for the trip had increased to 23.3 MPG.

On the return trip, again VERY windy, from a 10 to 11 o'clock direction, I managed to get the average for the trip up to 23.7 average as mentioned above.

From all the misc. ramblings above, IMO strong 3 or 9 o'clock side winds are the worst MPG conditions for our Tacoma's.

Sorry to bore everyone with so many details. Just having a OCD moment.

Worst tank ever.

419 miles on 17.396 for 24.1 mpg.

Moved to 1 mile from new brewery and no warmup on commute.

 

Filled up a couple days ago.

447.8 miles - 20.00 gallons = 22.4 MPG

This was about 85% hi speed interstate, the rest 3 miles trips back and forth to work. Best part was the tank only cost me $32.18

 

23.85 when I filled up this weekend. Lowest tank since last winter about this time. Cold weather and short trips plus winter blend....not a recipe for great mileage!

 

A little better, drove to Denver yesterday to see Neil Degrasse Tyson which helped.

507.3 miles on 18.847 for 26.9 mpg.

Best part $1 discount from Safeway.

 

i dont have pics. but it went something like this.
330 driving like a jackass (mudding, off roading, driving really fast up hills etc)
347 driving alittle better.
and i am currently trying to get the best mpg i can (driving really slow).

 

Finally getting around to last tank, which was actually back on 2/26.

432.7 miles on 16.947 gallons for 25.5 mpg.

Ready for more warm weather.

 

this truck do better on long freeway trip. regular bay area traffic I do around 23-24mpg.
but one week I help my friend doing a bathroom remodel down stockton, I have to travel 58 miles one way. I got 28mpg...

 

Well I imagine my mileage will be taking a hit very quickly. Just had my first 24 mpg tank of the year too.

The business I've worked at for the last ten years burned down a few days ago. Since I hate driving the roads I did in the winter, I'll be looking for somewhere (much) closer.

 

That sucks that the business burnt down. Hope everything works out.

 

Last two tanks 25.5 and 25.6 - about what my summer mileage usually runs, so I guess we're done with the winter gas around here now.

New short commute making it tough.

 

Just changed oil and had an alignment done. It was going slightly to the right more than usual since I ran off the pavement and into dirt which I misjudged and was actually a bigger drop than expected. Alignment was off quite a bit. Now steering feels lighter and takes less effort to drive straight.

Anyway, been noticing an improvement in MPGs since. Just got a 27.8mpg from last tank which involved some full throttle red line runs.

 

479.2 miles on 16.380 gallons for 29.3 mpg.

Drove from Boulder to Alamosa to see Great Sand Dunes on my 29th Anniversary. Should get some excellent mpg on the trip back, it was in the 34mpg average on the 280 mile drive down with a lot of up elevation.

 

Did a fillup up today after a earlier partial fill. 559.5 miles total - 24.35 gallons used = 22.97 MPG

Not bad for a lot of high speed interstate with some short in town trips.

 

I got about 22.75 on my first few tanks with the 255/80/17 coopers. Not too bad

 

Yep, now getting up to 20 is a lot harder with purely in-town driving. Last one was 19.6 mpg avg, but considering it took 18 days to burn that 14 gallons, and I work six days a week, I can live with that.

So far the tank I'm on now doesn't want to stay over 19 on the ultragauge. I gotta fight for it a little! How dare I be in the EPA range, such sacrilege!

 

541 miles on 18.699 for 28.9 mpg. Time to start peddling the bike the whole .7 miles to work.
